I have fond memories of Alberto Tomba, the slalom racer from the '80s (?). His dear mama told him she was afraid for his safety if he raced downhill, so he promised her he would only do the slalom races--and proceeded to race the slalom faster and more recklessly than had been seen in ages. He also refused to get up for the early morning practices and slept in, then did a couple of runs down the mountains in midday then hit the beach.

Maybe not the most accomplished Olympian, but my Aunt was his grade three teacher (and his only teacher to send him a good luck card or something, per his mother), and his mother was in nursing school with my mother.
They're supposed to be appearing in Springfield tomorrow.
But I'd also heard that they meant to announce earlier in the week and pushed it back because of the McCain house thing.
