'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Hell, it takes enough skill and guts just to go off one of those ski jumps without killing yourself that I'm not going to begrudge Eddie-the-Eagle his moment of fleeting fame.

Details!!!

The perils of being a fan of a no-name Chicago band. They were shooting video outside Metro, and I was standing in line and occasionally chatting with band members.

I can see myself spotting the camera in the first few seconds of the video and obviously going, "OH, HELL NO."

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

It's gotten really dark here in the past few minutes. Now the wind's picked up--I think we're going to get rain. (It's even darker further north, towards the Wisconsin/Illinois line.)

Just checked the radar. It's a small cell right over us, heading rapidly northeast for the lake.

About 20 minutes ago I hung out some laundry to dry, and -- hand to god -- as I hung the last item, a big bank of potentially ominous clouds rolled in. It's not yet raining, and it's 91, so I'm leaving the clothes out as long as I can (in 91-degree weather, they should dry quickly). I'm just keeping one eye on the windows so I can dash out back if it starts to rain.

Damn you, weather gods!

Clearly I need to dress up a little for their concert tomorrow, because if I keep showing up in the official pictures and footage, I should at least look good. God.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

One of the things I like about YouTube is that it's a constantly moving shell game where people post clips from their favorite shows and movies which have never been released on DVD, which are then removed and then come back looking like _Dar1a_ for Daria.

Cool shows like The Maxx can be seen, and you can watch all of Tom Waits Big Time in ten chunks on YouTube.

Honey West is coming out on DVD soon but you can keep yourself entertained waiting for it to arrive.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Supposedly the DVD release of Daria is being held up while they work out the rights for the music. I don't remember - what songs did they use?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm not sure what the music rights issue would be for Daria. They had Jane's brother's band doing weird songs, but those were written for the show. The title track was written by Janet Wygal (of The Wygals, and The Individuals).

ION, I want this painting by Jared Joslin.

“Not dead yet!”

Favorite Olympian/Olympian crush: Paul Wylie, 1992 Albertville Olympics. Believed to be washed up, named to the U.S. Olympic team under protest, that people thought that one of the younger guys should be named and not without reason-- he had a history of choking in the short program and then delivering the most exquisite long programs.

But somehow, he managed to do the impossible and do a great short program and then even better, perform a gorgeous long program when it counted.
