'The Killer In Me'

Spike's Bitches 40: Buckle Up, Kids! Daddy's Puttin' the Hammer Down.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I'm fairly anti-juice in my own home (it's nothing but empty calories, teaches kids that beverages need to be sugary, and what's wrong with just eating a piece of fruit???)

I don't drink juice but I do eat whole fruit because I know how straight juice makes my blood sugar go bonkers. And if I had a kid, and could get the kid to eat whole fruit in lieu of juice, that would be good. That said --

banning parents from sending their kids in with juice boxes is craxy with a capital CRAXY.

Exactly.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

Sleep training sounds good to me. Good luck. may Dylan be more co-operative than expected.

I thought the problem with juice was that it filled up little tummies and they didn't eat other things they needed? And aren't we supposed to be taking the battle away from the table?

Ah, the Obesity Scare(TM): making "malnourished" the new "healthy."

Okay, I'm not saying that juice is the root of all evils and parents who let their kids have juice boxes are abusive, but really, the vast majority of juice is nothing but sugar water. It's not nourishment.

Oh, my obesity rant isn't specifically juice-box-directed; it's just that in general, "malnourished" is becoming the new "healthy." Particularly for kids, which scares the crap out of me.

not your mom's socks.

actually, it wasn't even juice boxes. it was 1/3 pear juice, 2/3 water. because I couldn't send milk. and she would go the whole day without drinking water. She's not there anymore - though I heard through channels that they've changed their position on what's available.

Jessica - heaps of admiration on you and Amy for figuring out a system.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Particularly for kids, which scares the crap out of me.

This I agree with - there's even vague rumblings going on now saying maybe we should encourage toddlers to drink low-fat milk (instead of whole, which is what's currently recommended). You know, because it's not like fats are necessary for brain development or anything.

Because books.

You know, because it's not like fats are necessary for brain development or anything.

Oh, christ. Kids need FULL FAT EVERYTHING until they're at least two, for just that reason.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I think growing up juice was a morning thing, it was expensive so we didn't drink it any time except for breakfast.

It made it easier to give up with diabetes

oh wow. ::hammer drops::

there was a mom in our class at that school worried about the kids' cholesterol levels.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

I kept Em off juice for a looong time mainly to protect her teeth, not anything to do with her weight. I'm overly paranoid about rotten teeth.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

You know, because it's not like fats are necessary for brain development or anything.

But Jessica, having a fat child would be the worst fate ever!
