ita, I think my ex used conditioner on his mostly-bald head, but honestly, I could be remembering the bathroom from when he had a roommate. He definitely had more product than made sense to me, given the very small amount of hair on his head.

when my hair fell out I remember having this issue, and I think I used body lotion for the week or two until I had too much stubble.

my hair fell out (or more correctly broke off) when I was a soph in college and bleaching my own platinium roots. I had product in my hair when I do my roots once and that combined with just really damaged hair led to it all breaking off at about 1-2mm down the middle of my head. A bit of a reverse mohawk. I had handfulls of hair when I rinsed out the bleach.
