Is that the kid who was hip-hopping with his (too young to audition) brother? Because he really was adorable. I do hope he invests in some standard dance classes over the next year.
Those mutant guys in New York were really freaky, but I liked that the judges gave them the chance to show their stuff in the choreography tryout at the end of the day. The guys sound like they were smart and realized there was no way in hell they'd be able to perform at that level and took off before dancing.
I have to wonder why some of those people stick around and audition in the first place after watching someone really good try out?
SYTYCD: Yeesh.
I think part of what's so restrictive is that there are both Nigel and Mary on the panel, trying to fit all dance into the same sort of framework. I give them credit for trying to learn about the other styles, because I think it's very difficult to move between them, which is what this show asks the dancers to do. But I think that's why sometimes the show breaks down into "was it emotional enough" where only the choreography that tells an explicit narrative is successful. Some of the technical skill is lost in the translation.
I agree again about the hair-flinging, but I have an issue with contemporary in general I think, which I'll have to unpack later.
Gender roles in dance in general are problematic, and it makes me sad because dance is an area where gender should really not be an issue.
MMaSM: I agree that Colin should be Fan Favorite and that I'm sad Salome is gone.
TC:M Cannot wait! Have to make sure I've got the Tivo set, huh?

Yes, that's who I meant. He said they were the youngest two out of like 14 kids or something crazy.

Well, when he said that, and that all their siblings danced, I assumed they were members of the Mormon Dancing Mafia...

Bwah!
See, I may *not* be the right audience for this, because I didn't think he did too badly with the choreography, and I was surprised when the judges were like, "Uh, NO."
I loved those two, even though the dancing wasn't awesome. I know those relationships do happen in a big family like that; my dad had a particular brother, a few years older than him, that really looked out for him, among his ten siblings. They did everything together, so there are some really cute pictures of them together as kids.
Anyway, do you have to be eighteen? So it'd be two years before the younger brother could compete, too?
I don't know for a fact, but imagine that you do have to be 18.
I also like when the judges get especially honest: "You should be in commercials!" "Commercials with dancing!" "Sure, whatever."
I cannot get enough of Nigel's tweets. He is now apologizing.
here's some more SYTYCDers that i know twitter.
Tyce DiOrio
Brian Friedman
Mia Michaels (be warned that she only ever posts in asscaps and she often makes no sense.)
i'm sure there are more, but i haven't found them yet.
man. I'm not sure I'd be interested in reading anyone on that list except for tyce.
I am reading tiggy's post for what it is: a gentle urge to stop posting comments solely on Nigel's tweets! :-)
