You got all kinds of learnin' and you made me look the fool without tryin', and yet here I am with a gun to your head. That's 'cause I got people with me. People who trust each other, who do for each other, and ain't always lookin' for the advantage.

Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]

Because books.

I missed it, too, but I usually don't pay attention when Amanda is speaking, so.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I was definitely glad to see Amanda go, but Brandon is also really getting on my nerves. He just has the one facial expression and it's getting as annoying as Gabriel's was.

I really thought that Mountaha might win this week--I loved her picture (thought it was up there with Salome's), and she totally rocked the runway with those butterflies.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Yes, Perkins is absolutely correct and I was horrified. I already couldn't stand her, but the white hot hate came out after that remark.

Setting aside the lack of logic in her remark and that if things really did work the way she thinks they do, by implication, her son may turn out to be Norman Bates: Did she forget what industry she wanted to so desperately be a part of and that said industry is, at the very least, gay friendly?

Aw, I love Tom Colicchio. Times interview. [link]

OMG, he buys Fresca and Simon Pearce? I think I'm in love.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Yeah, I boggled at that one. I was like "Sweetie, you walking around naked is not going to help that one. Hell, it might make your son MORE GAY!!!"

Seriously! Issues much?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Here's a somewhat negative review of The Fashion Show: [link] What cracks me up is that they point to "T.I.'s Road to Redemption" as an example of how even MTV and VH-1 are getting less trashy. Did they watch the same "For the Love of Ray-J" I did???

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Hee. It's clear I'm home and catching up on my reality tv.

TAR: Seriously? I'm not the right person to ask about this issue, because I have an iron bladder, but seriously? Million dollars, you can't hold it just a little longer?

Definitely cheering for Tammy & Victor at this point. I think they really have worked their way through their issues and are having fun. Luke & Margie have gotten too cranky at this point, probably from exhaustion. I know I'm breakable, so I'm sure my uglier side would come out were I on a show like this, too.

And you know who I'm not cheering for.

MMaSM: Looks like next week's going to be even more weepy, but man is everyone breaking down! Brandon is definitely into woobie territory because he's just so young. It must be hard to learn like that, everything thrown at you at once. You're getting everything from how to cook eggs and do your own laundry to the balance between confidence and cockiness, and that's something that many people never figure out. At that age I was breaking lamps and screaming and that was just at the drama of everyday living.

I think the final probably deserves to be Jonathan, Jordan, & Sandhurst. But I think it may end up being Salome instead of Jordan. (Oh, and as an aside, I think her confusion about Warhol was probably not put on as whoever it was implied. She'd probably recognize the images if she'd seen them, but growing up in that environment, I could see her not knowing who he was.)

Oh, and about Jonathan. I'd wondered about that wrt reality shows in general; if the contestants were getting some sort of stipend for the time they were away. I guess typically reality show cast members are young single people with copious amounts of free time, but it seems like being able to keep up with the rent for three months while you're gone would be a more common problem.

Oh, yeah, and isn't yellowfin tuna the new one that's having problems and shouldn't be fished right now? Doesn't Tom go on about stuff like that from time to time, know your ingredients?

Also, I covet his house.

There was something else I had to OMG about, but now I can't remember. Reality overload.

According to the fish/seafood guide I just got at the Monterey Aquarium last week, Yellowfin is a "good alternative" but only if it is caught by trolling or with a pole (not via longline).

Yeah, I've thought about the rent issue on the reality tv front. A single person could just give up their apartment and put stuff in storage or whatever. It did kill me how stupid Amanda was all worked up about how she's doing this for her kid, when Jonathan was just silently fretting about his wife and kid's continued ability to make the rent. I'm assuming Amanda's kid is with her parents?
