Seriously, bwah!
I was sure she was getting the editing of doom, but no. Once again the judges chicken out of an actual decision. It would have been so much more joyful a finale without her. Do the designers lack joy? Yes! Because someone is sucking it out of them!
I liked Jerrell's dress, but it wasn't spectacular. I think at this point all dresses have to stand up to Chris & Christian's avant garde dress, and none of them ever do. I just think there was less talent this year.
I think Leanne's idea was good, but D. thinks that she should have restrained herself and limited the ruching to one asymmetric curve, which would have reflected the flower better. That also would have eliminated the weird hip thing. Seriously not flattering there.
If it had been Top Chef they wouldn't have let her go back for the materials. I was amused at all the shots of Tulle Doom.
I loved Korto's inspiration photo and was thinking she'd go somewhere else with the design. Like an exaggerated flapper dress with larger tubes for the fringe or something. Or if that's too literal, at least reflected the gradation of the color, the way it changed vertically.
Oh, and I didn't even comment on Kenley's disaster of a disco lizard costume. It's like she forgot that the bit about designing for Hedda Lettuce in the van was just a joke.
Not quite raised on a tugboat, but I saw this in a catalog I got yesterday.
Ha!
Oh, yes - I think if Leeanne had limited the ruching it would have both looked better AND been more true to her overall style.
Of course, she would still have that blue fabric in back. What's up with that?
I forgot about that fabric. I have no idea. It seemed like there was a lot of sticking extra fabric on in this challenge.

I liked the idea of having another color in there, I think she just didn't have time to really use it effectively.
I do think Kenley was right to take Suede's model a few weeks ago; she has a great body and really sells whatever she wears.
Yeah, I know everybody gets pissy over the model switching, but honestly it's a real advantage to get to pick. And the chance comes along rarely, so it's wise to take advantage of it when you can.
That said, I think it sucks that it's a competition for the models because so little of it is in their hands. It's been what, three weeks since they even modeled? And yet they get eliminated more or less randomly.
Well, they say it's a competition for the models: that must be their incentive to perform well. That's the only control they have.
I would love for them to go back to picking the models each time. They don't have to show the whole pick, but it would be nice to know it's happening.
On to Top Design, I grow more and more in love with Kelly Wearstler's looks. She's like the Posh of interior design!
