can you make pancakes without eggs?
Oh, that's a good point. Not too many chefs are experts in vegan baking, I guess.

I hope it was just lack of sleep that was making Jen act like that.

I'm pretty sure it was a major contributor, but on the other hand, the outright defiance at judges' table seems to be a theme this season, first with Fabio and now Jen. I think, having already been through this once, even the contestants themselves are a little surprised at how little patience they have with the process. And I mean that. I think, if any of them were thinking, "I'm not going through that again," they stayed off. But I think Fabio, Jen and probably more than a few others are encountering little triggers that are just plain setting them off.
I think part of it might be that they all came in thinking they were prepared for the competition, having done it before, and with their guard and nerves down -- never mind the increased pressure and level of competition -- it's hitting them in ways that they were shielded from before in part by nerves until they acclimated.
Fabio was kind of always like that, though. His behavior didn't strike me as out-of-character the way Jen's did. (Especially her screaming fit in the hallway after she left the stew room.)
I do think being in the bottom at the beginning of the season has got to feel doubly-insulting at this point, even though it shouldn't. But I'm so good! I should have won my season! And I'm even better now! It's like the difference between high school and college -- now everyone's the smartest kid in the class!
I also really think that 45 minutes of sleep had a large part to play in Jen's attitude. I can't imagine what I would act like having to work that hard on that little sleep.
It is odd to look at the cast and think that these are all the people I expected to go most of the way in their seasons (with the exception of Mike I., because I really think he's a hack who skated under the radar too long). And going home second when you made it to the finals in your season has to suck, but she was so ... crazed. Drinking big cups of denial all night, it seemed like.
As Marcel held the door open for her, I couldn't help thinking he looked relieved and a little pleased, too.
Went to Volt (Bryan Voltaggio's restaurant) for the tasting menu tonight. Food was impeccable, service was amazing, and the servers were hot. Seriously 90% of the staff had a hotness factor of 7 or higher.
Also, Bryan came to greet us and he was sweet as pie. We took a photo, which I have of course posted on Facebook.
How cool!
And I just checked - we're not FB friends yet, so I sent a request.
TAR is apparently 26 minutes late, per Facebook.
