Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
Did I miss Mary? I did step away for awhile.
Pretty sure the wee jivers were from Mary's ballroom school. But no, we didn't see Mary.
Kat, I think your point about starting at 90% and trying to find the limit is a good one. The compressed and intense schedule and unfamiliarity with a given movement vocabulary makes it hard and dangerous enough. Ratcheting the skill level to eleven is going to take its toll.
Rachel McLaren proving that sometimes even pros fall out of turns. She was off her game tonight. Jamar Roberts was beautiful. I'm glad they came with a more challenging piece. That showed real respect for their audience. Gotta love Ailey.
Darn it. I think we had a real shot to get rid of Jose if not for Ashley's injury. Doriana ruins everything. Not that I hate Jose, but I'm really tired of watching the judges condescend to him.
Love that Comfort and Twitch number the first time. Loved it again tonight. Twitch was always ridiculous, but I'm blown away by how much Comfort has grown as a dancer and performer since her season. She's a monster. It was jarring to hear Chris Brown.
Billy's solo was very Billy-esque and Jose is still not as good as past b-boys on this show.
Damn show. Getting me all sniffly two weeks in a row. And I'm not even a big Ashley fan.
I'm glad to hear that they will include some S5 and S6 dancers on the tour this year because those kids really got jobbed by the back to back seasons.
smonster hit the nail on the head. It would be hard enough learning a performance ready, advanced level routine per week in your own style, but when you add in a whole different genre of dance with a movement vocabary that can sometime be not only new, but also completely contradictory to the way you've spent your whole life teaching your body to move? Well, that can definitely lead to some injuries.
Yeah, seeing somewhere else on the internet and people were like "Well, Broadway people have to dance 8 shows a week!" and it's like "yeah, but that's not 8 DIFFERENT, NEW shows a week, ya moron! It's the same moves over and over, where you can get used to them, and get better at them, etc"
I want Jose gone, it's getting ridiculous.
Well, Jose's weaknesses are showing more and more, so if nobody is injured next week, we might see the last of him. I like him and his spirit a lot, but he really doesn't rise to the level that Joshua, Legacy or Twitch brought to the game in their genre.

Jose: this year's Chbeeb?
Chbeeb was great at what he did, though. Jose's just pretty good. Even in last nights solo, he started strong but he seemed to not know what to do for the last 10-20 seconds.

So right! Retracted. I have yet to see anyone do what he does as well as he does, or even the way he does.
For me Jose is a new kind of thing on this show. We've had other overly hyped, overly propped projects in the past, Chbeeb, Cedric, Ivan, even Evan in his own way. But I can't really think of another dancer in another season who was propped by the judges while consistently bombing in dance styles outside his/her genre who wasn't also the bomb diggity at what he/she did. Chbeeb and Cedric are ridiculous hip hop dancers and do things in their own styles that I've not seen anyone else do. Ivan, as a hip hop dancer, was a prodigious talent. I still love Evan doing Broadway and wish that he and bald brother would be invited to choreograph on the show. Comfort was severely limited in other styles but she's a monster in hip hop. Jose is something else all together. Not good in other dance styles and not that impressive even in his own style. For the life of me, I just don't get it. Sweet kid with an infectious smile should not be enough to make top 6 on this show. You should have to at least be one of the best at what you actually do.
