Angel: I appreciate you guys looking out for Connor all summer. It's just—he's confused. He needs time. That's all. Fred: Right. Time, and some corporal punishment with a large heavy mallet. Not that I'm bitter.

Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]

Out of the three reality shows I watched from last night, I'd have to say my favorite was The Choir on BBCA. That choirmaster is frickin' adorable! And the kids are terrific, too. I can't wait to see if the brother and sister's dad gets his visa from Kenya so he could be reunited with his family after spending a year apart. Will the Indian "broken voice" boy ever learn to sing in tune? And will the shy Chloe stop avoiding school and practice and let choir change her ways? Tune in next week!!

Art Crawl!!!

I agree that the structure was weird but I kind of thought that it was only chance that the food that they liked the best was in the 3rd course. It could be that being structured that way would make it more difficult for say, the breakfast course to win.

Well, I liked Miles' piece. I also liked Nichole's piece. I was happy that Jaimie went - she seemed out of her depth and much as I dislike her Jaclyn is managing to pull it off. Now, if they manage to construct a challenge where her piece couldn't possibly be about her own image or others' reactions to her image then she could be in trouble.

Here's an Alex Wong playing around dance I hadn't seen yet. Alex and his buddy do Beyonce's Single Ladies in Renaissance dress (and Alex has a padded booty and a fake moustache.) Scroll down: [link]

Oh, I totally meant to watch The Choir! I'll have to see if it repeats.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I ADORED The Choir! The kind of direct intimate insight that TV can do so well and almost never does.

Emmy noms are out--Cat got dissed again, sadly. Mia and Stacey got nominated for pieces that I have to go look up to see what they are. Shankman also got a nod for his academy award choreo, and Chelsie got a nod for her Dancing With the Stars work! Go SYTYCD!

They also got a makeup nomination. Er. Ok?

Mia's three pieces were the addiction piece with Kayla and Kupono, the butt number with Randee and Evan, and the group number "One" from A Chorus Line, and Stacey's was Kathryn and Legacy's first contemporary piece, where he was "fear" clinging to her heels.

I can live with that. Although Cat needs an Emmy stat!

Stacey's piece was genius as was the Kayla/Kupono addiction piece. The One group number was just a'ight. Can I say that I'm glad Tasty didn't get a nod for his overwrought cancer dance for Melissa and Ade? And that's not even due to my general dislike of Tasty, because he's kind of a nifty contemporary choreographer, but that dance was way overrated IMHO. Heidi is nominated for a hosting Emmy but Cat is left off the list? That ain't right.

Make up on SYTYCD nominated for an Emmy? Haaaahaaaahaaahaaahaaahaaahaahaahaaaaa. Who did the trannyhos sell their souls to?

My favorite group number from S5 was the Imogen Heap one where they were covered with dust cloths and the guys were wearing strange leather belts around their chests.

And ITA that the cancer number was overrated. When I put together my best-of DVD for that season, I left that piece off.
