Nigel:

The All-Stars will NOT Choreograph. They will only dance in their own specific styles. Partners are of the opposite sex and change weekly.

The choreographers must be bored silly.

Well, that means that we'll probably get more Travis choreo, which is a win.

Ponderation about SYTCD all-stars: all the ballroom all-stars are Latin ballroom (I think?). Does this mean nobody will be tortured by the Quickstep this season? (Please? There's been one Quickstep that *ever* succeeded, IMO - Jakob and Ellenore.)

Pasha and Anya seem to be pegged for Latin and Standard Ballroom.

Website says there is one more male and one more female to be announced as All Stars. Guesses?

Yeah, I'd bet that Pasha and Anya will do double duty in both Latin and Standard. And I think they can handle it. Anya and Danny's Foxtrot is still one of the best of all times, and Pasha was actually not bad at all in his Quickstep with Sabra.

I think the last two all stars have got to be another contemporary boy and girl. I'd love for the girl to be Jeanine, but i don't think she's popular enough. For the boy, my first choice would be Danny, but he's not available for the summer - touring with the Bad Boys of Dance. Jakob, too, I believe, which is sad. And Travis is choreographing, which means he won't be dancing. So, I don't know. Maybe Brandon? Brandon would be fun.

Because books.

As someone who just got into SYTYCD in the last two seasons, this all-star thing is really confusing and off-putting. I don't want to watch people who were already on. I don't get it, at all.

as someone who's been watching since season two, this all star thing is confusing and off-putting, Amy. i'm interested to see how it will play out, but i think it will probably be a giant clusterfuck of people just voting for the all star that they love.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Is it possible that the talent was so weak this year that they could only go for a top 10? To fix this problem, they decided to have all-stars?

BTW, I bet they would have grand ratings to have an all-stars season of SYTYCD.

I think an All Stars season of SYTYCD would be kick ass. I hate this hybrid thing they are trying to pull. It is an unholy abomination. Of course, I'll still watch, but I am predicting that it will fail both as a satisfying platform for the all stars and as a solid season for the new kids and that's a shame. I really can't understand why they are having this all stars mess.

And I don't think it's a talent drought. Every year, there are head scratchers who just miss the top 20, enough to easily fill at least a top 10. Just last season, Billy Bell had to drop out; they passed on that gorgeous ballet boy, David (yellow shorts); they still have that other kid from Miami City Ballet lurking somewhere out there, Alex maybe?, and he was amazing; there's the other ballroom boy that was not a DeLillo that got cut with Ryan, and that kid Teddy Tedholme (the plaid pants kid) and that's five out of a potential ten just from really great dancers who didn't make last year's top 20 from the green mile(summer and fall version). That's not even taking into account the mystifying Vegas Week cuts that always happen. I'd bet you could probably come up with a similar list for the girls: Paula Van Oppen had to pull out last year because she got a movie and she is a rock star; there's Katee's roommate who was cut in Vegas week because Mia is such a hater; there was the really pretty, skinny black girl who they thought needed to show more "personality". I honestly don't think it's a talent drought.

Maybe they wanted to do an all stars season and couldn't get enough to do 20, so they decided to do this.

An interesting idea might be to do a season of the girls and guys that got to the finals, but didn't make it all the way.
