Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

I recommend the interview with Maya on the Project Rungay blog:

I think it's easy to judge through the lens of the television, but I have rather a lot of admiration for Maya -- it takes a lot to realize that you're on the wrong path, no matter what it potentially offers, and to walk away.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Good for her. I thought it seemed like a smart decision just from what we saw on the show, but I'm really impressed with how she's thinking about her career and the big picture in that interview.

I'm bummed we don't get to see her collection, though.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

ITA. This seemed to be the point Seth Aaron was making, too.

Mila, I just don't know about. The question of "Do we want to see more from her?" keeps coming up, and I'm with the judges there - I liked her a lot in the beginning, but I feel like she just on the wrong side of the fuzzy line between "strong POV" and "can only do one thing." And so many of her clothes just plain don't fit.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Finally caught Survivor. Don't get the logic of Jerri or Coach at all, especially with what Russell pulled last week.

They've also gotten rid of the strongest player with (I assume) at least a couple of challenges to go. I hope they get nothing but puzzles.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I bet Jerri is doing what Russell's team last season was doing:

thinking that Russell is one of the few people over there who people would dislike more than her. If she makes the merge, no way is anyone going to vote for him in the final.

I think that's a dangerous game to play with this crowd - these are all players who've played before and like the game enough to come back for more. They're much more likely to vote for the asshole-but-good-player than a typical jury would be.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I agree Jessica. However, even Rob said Russell's personality is a turn off...so he could be that odious.

I still don't think he went near the finale of this season based on his reaction at the finals last season.

OMG, the Cowboys just rock! I love them.

Once they were checked in - I just didn't care about the rest.
