Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
Yeah, I have a meatspace buddy Kevin, but he can be kind of an asshole sometimes too. (Sorry Kevin, if you're lurking, I know you love the Jossverse!) But he is. Not always, but enough to not break the problematic name.
I dated a couple of Davids and married the last one. I sometimes think that guys' names in general are less likely to be unusual.
Anyway, reality. I saw the end of the elimination show for SYTYCD this week, but nothing else. So I'll have to go back and watch the dances. I'm okay with Channing going, I think.
I'm a little sad that Channing went home, I think she did better this week than previous weeks. Eta: in her partner dance. IDK about her solo.
The thing Victor did to his toes at the end of his solo? Ouch! That's the main thing I really noticed.
Loved the opening group number and boy, Bollywood looks so exhausting.
Dude, SURVIVOR!!!
That is all.
I second Nora's SURVIVOR!!
Shit, I'm way behind on Survivor.
I keep forgetting to catch up with On Demand.
PR:
The camera work is really shitty. I cannot believe how wrong they did Carol Hannah's final look. You couldn't see ANY detail on that final gown. It's bullshit.
I was way less impressed with Carol Hannah's than I thought I would be. There's no story there, to use designer lingo. No theme carried through, other than evening. I did like a few pieces, though.
I actually loved that camel-colored evening gown of Althea's. Irina's was a little too black for me, and the headgear was nuts. Who wears that?!
Carol Hannah had several pieces I really liked. I love that sort of exploded tutu thing, the inverted pyramid the Herald-Tribune woman called it.
Irina had a cohesive collection, but I didn't like any of it. Just not to my taste, and not wowing me enough to impress me in spite of that. I am far from the woman she's designing for, though.
I liked very little of Althea's. It was all fine, I guess, but not at all exciting. I did like the tan pants, but I had tan silk pants very much like that in the 90s.
I dislike Irina immensely. I think she's the sort of artist I've worked with, in multiple genres, who I want to strangle within five minutes.
But her collection rocked. It was cohesive, it was sharp, and the work on the back of the jackets was, like, whoa. I thought the helmets didn't work for every piece, and the call to take some of them off for the final parade was a good one. On the whole -- paining me to say as it does -- Irina not only deserved the win, but I'd hold it up with among the better final collections in the history of this show. (Which, admittedly, considering how many final collections have been disappointments, is damning with faint praise.)
