Well, the assumption should be that you don't pronounce the s. The bigger crime is pronouncing Joël as one syllable, as if she were channeling the Katie Lee bot. In front of him no less! Note: everyone else was saying it correctly.

Because books.

Was it supposed to be Jo-el?

All I know is, the previews for next week look good. "Uh oh, Tom's walking away ..."

I was happy to see Chicago represented by Jean Joho.

Some day, I'll make it to dinner at Everest, I swear! Just because it's there. And good.

Yeah, the accent means you pronounce each vowel separately, as in Noël (Christmas), or the name Loïc. Again, not that one would know that automatically, but everyone else I heard said it right, so it was clearly out there in the ether.

Kat, I'm reading your blog entry for last night's SYTYCD, and I so agree on just about everything, including the hotness of Phillip, the Day 2 tapper. He reminds me of the young Harry Belafonte, but maybe even sexier.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

You actually pronounce the s, which is an exception to the general rule, so I wouldn't expect people to know that.

I did not know that! Man, I feel like I have been failed by someone -- not sure who -- all these years.

Last night, I finally got around to watching the Top Chef Masters that I had tivoed, only to discover that I don't have the motherfucking finale. I know who won, so I'm not really pressed, but I suspect that those assholes changed the title again, so that the season pass didn't pick up on it! Grrr.

Well, unless you're a florist, or a royalist, I can't imagine the word would come up that often.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

It comes up in New Orleans all the time. I suspect we have appropriated it, sans "s" pronounced at the end.

I feel like it has! But I'm not sure why. From the Quebec license plate, maybe. But why would I even talk about that? There's got to be something else -- maybe a family crest or something.
