"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

So next week's quickfire is an "immunity AND elimination" round? Have they ever done that before? Must be part of the whole Vegas thing.

Dude, I forgot how many dancers from S3 I really just did not like. Dom and the Hunchback and Mischa Chan. And yet, they could all dance their butts off. That Mandy Moore table dance is still so good. Mandy put her foot in that one. And that was the episode that the Hunchback finally learned how to pull up and use that center. And of course, Danny. Oh, my stars, Danny! The man is fine seven ways 'til sundown. I love Hip Hip Chin Chin. And ballroom danced to appropriate ballroom music. Who knew?

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Yep. The infamous apple coring, first ep last season!

Must be part of the whole Vegas thing.

Indeed. Although I'm enjoying the unpredictability, even if I'm a tad concerned that only female chefs have been eliminated so far. (We were sitting there going, "Please take Misogynist Mike! Please take Misogynist Mike!")

Of course, the sad truth, Jen seems to be the only female chef this season that's playing on the top level. And she very well may take the whole thing.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Thanks to you Kat, all I could think about during the boardroom number was "hunchback".

How can you not, megan? He even stood with hunched shoulders. I'd never seen the like in a dancer.

You know, I think S4 probably had the highest number of dancers that I just really, really enjoyed (Josh, Twitch, Comfort, Chelsea and Chelsie, Gev, Will, Courtney, Matt, and of course the divine Mark from Hawaii) and yet it was not, IMHO, the best season. And I'm so glad that they chose Mia's Hometown Glory piece as one of the best of the season because it was so, so wow. Just no words. In fact, I didn't have any real problems with any of the dances chosen until the last one. Tasty's cancer dance? Best dance of all time in the history of the show ever? Really? It wasn't even in my personal top for S5. I guess mileage varies, but Nigel really needs to chill on this dance. It didn't actually cure Tasty's friend of her cancer. 4 Real.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I'm only partway in, but OMG really? But they are organizing it by season, right, so it's just what they're saying is best of the season, and they've got all that footage of people weeping, so they're showing that, RIGHT?

ETA: and basically it's for all the girls tuning in for Glee, which is starting early. Right.

Well, yes and no. Nigel showed the top 3 from S5 and then he starts going on about how hard it was to pick only 3 from each season (although S1 only got two - what?) and how he thought it would be so hard to chose just one "best of all time" but surprisingly it was easy. And then "boom", we're right into Tasty going on about his cancer stricken friend and we see Melissa and Ade do the dance and then we see Mia weeping for her father and folks in the audience holding up signs with the pink cancer ribbon and Tasty is crying in the audience and whatever, you know? And then Nigel talks about how this dance will go down in the annals of history and be remembered for all time as the nee plus ultra of SYTYCD. Not to take anything away from Melissa and Ade, because I love them, but hell to the naw. It's not even the best contemporary piece that Tasty has ever done for the show. He's had some great ones. I'd put his Why for Allison and Ivan or his beautiful piece for Will and Jessica above the cancer dance any day.

!!! Ugh. I didn't even like that routine, let alone thought it overrated.

ETA: It's on now. Bob Bob: "I heard that they had cured cancer, but kind of lost the thread there. So this is what did it? Huh."

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

My TiFaux decided to tape the midnight re-broadcast instead of the 10pm TC. Bad TiFaux! No biscuit!

Art Crawl!!!

My Tivo decided that 18=180 and I had to tape the 12:45 rebroadcast.

But, I thought that Jen rocked as executive chef and they did, in fact, get rid of the clueless chef. I think that Mike was hoping to ride on the coat tails of Michael V.'s dish. I wonder what the judges would have done if he hadn't made that second dish?

And I wonder if Ashley expressed discomfort at cooking for the military but TC chose to not air that because they didn't want her to be the villain? Or because it's so impolitic?
