All Ogle, No Cash -- It's Not Just Annoying, It's Un-American
Discussion of episodes currently airing in Un-American locations (anything that's aired in Australia is fair game), as well as anything else the Un-Americans feel like talking about or we feel like asking them. Please use the show discussion threads for any current-season discussion.

Interesting. Becuase the fact that unlike ANY OTHER VAMPIRE INCLUDING ONES THAT WERE OLDER, A.K.A. KAKISTOS, NOT TO MENTION THE
UBER VAMP
, THE MASTER LEFT BONES BEHIND, WHICH REALLY CAUSES SOME CONTINUITY ISSUES.
Sorry for the ASSCAPS, but this is one for those who nitpick the later seasons to death.
Whew - glad I got that out.
Was going to edit, but decided just to say - jimi this wasn't remotely directed at you - it's just a HUGE glitch early on that I never hear boo about, when later seasons get nit-picked beyond the point of reason. I'm tempted to re-post this elsewhere.
A stupid mistake made during editing and one I find increasingly annoying !
Now, as an editor, have to respond to this.
Usually, when I'm editing, I'm the one person who has to try to correct the errors that everyone else made. If anyone notices mistakes, it's editors, and for the sake of the film, they're trying to get rid of them. The problem is that you're the last in the chain; there's usually no option of going back and redoing anything.
Based on my own experience, I'd say that, if costuming didn't make the error, the director probably decided to move one scene for dramatic purposes. A comparison with the shooting script might help clear it up.
BTW, jimi, it's season 2, I don't think we need to whitefont any more.
Fiona ... I know the ep is old news but I whitefonted b/c being alerted to the error is new news to some folks and it could ruin the ep for them and far be it from me to cause that.
Apologies to you and all the other editors out there; I worded that incorrectly. The mistake was made during the editing process but that's
not
to say it was the editors mistake. The responsibility ultimately falls to the director and/or producer.
Ken ... s'okay, I didn't think your post was directed at me. I can't say I go along with you though b/c I've never considered the Master bones an issue. He's a "special" vampire, so having his bones stick around doesn't seem out of phase with the rest of the Jossverse.
Kassto--what you should look for is definitely a "region-free" (aka multizone) DVD player, so you can play DVDs from overseas, as well as bootleg DVDs your friends bring home from Asian holidays...The range of DVDs released in Region 4 (which I assume NZ is in as well as Aus) is quite pathetic. Fortunately, I believe most DVD players can be altered/hacked to be region-free; but mine actually came as region-free out of the box. Anyway, jimi is definitely the expert on these things!
The mistake was made during the editing process
Surely not jimi? Continuity in clothing etc is the responsibility of people on set. If the editor is presented with footage containing a continuity error, they do have to decide whether to edit it out, but this might damage the plot, so they might well leave the error in even if they know it's there. Either way, I can't see it as a "mistake made during the editing process".
t edit
Of course the best option is to reshoot the scene, but that's impossible on Buffy's budget/timeline and in any case it's the director's call not the editor's
God, listen to me, acting as if I know what I'm talking about...
I would assume that either the director/writers/producers decided to move the scenes around after it as shot, and thought the costume error was a small price to pay, or there was a miscommunication of the change close to shooting.
Of course, I am a costume person, and it couldn't possibly be their fault ;)
Wow, that is so not the kind of thing I would ever notice. I'm actually an editor myself, and can't bear errors in text. But off the page I'm pretty oblivious. I'll have to look for that the next time I watch.
Probably the most glaring continuity error in the whole series is in "Innocence," where a whole day somehow gets inserted in between Xander having the Urgent and Key Army Base Plan and it actually being carried out, although Joss has fanwanked that one (or I suppose I should say "writerwanked").
I was watching the season 4 DVD's, and I noticed a crew member in the bushes in the scene where they find the demon that Adam has strung up and cut open. He probably didn't even read on the broadcast or video.
Yeah, that could have been one of those smaller errors that are allowed in because of late changes, or because it fixes bigger errors. Or maybe one could argue that Buffy's such a fashion Bessie that she would change clothes for the different events in her day, sort of like Shannen Doherty wearing a different outfit in every one of her scenes in "Mallrats."
