"what's left when you take biology and sociology out of the picture?" "An autistic hermaphodite." -Allyson

Y'know, just watched the first 2 eps of season 7 on FX today. I'd seen a few minutes of Beneath You, but I'd never seen Lessons. P'raps its just knowing what a super-size bag of ass the Potentials would turn out to be, but whyinhell didn't they keep Dawn's pals around? I would have liked seeing them develop a bit more, and there's only 2 of 'em. How much worse could it have been? I really wouldn't have minded a Scooby-ettes plotline running through the season at all.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Hoo Boy, Judging from the hate against the concept that was pouring out of every crevice, I'd say the scooby-ettes would have been at least as scorned as the potentials.

"God...my brilliance is now becoming a bit of a burden...get back to me." Dr. Cox - Scrubs

In the few seconds they were around everyone hated them. Everyone was all like "that guy's no Xander" and "nerdy Willow would have still kicked that girls ass! Even upon just hearing about the concept of the Scrappy gang during the summer before S7 spoilers many disliked the idea. I think this may have caused Joss and co. to rethink the whole next generation thing...or maybe it was just intended for them to be a one episode thing.

IIRC Dawn's friends were originally going to be next gen Scoobies, 'Scrappies' :). I believe it got ditched (along with many, many other things) for lack of time.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I recall a pretty strong "GET. THEM. OFF. My. SCREEN. NOW!!!" sentiment from fandom that might have spooked Marti and Joss off the Scrappy Gang idea.

Sorry about the lack of 8x4 review, Screencaps came first.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Shame. I kind of liked them.

Lot better than I ever liked the potentials.

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

I heard it was the suits at Fox who were underwhelmed by a "Scoobies: The Next Generation" spinoff rather than any fan reaction that killed those two off.

I think the Potentials would have worked better if the main characters hadn't been pods. Buffy and Giles were so frustrating, they didn't use to let any character get away with lecturing the way Buffy did. And her sense of humour had evidently vanished into the ether.

But yeah, those kids were cool. Dawn was cool, and she had an actual role in the plot, which was nice. They could have done something with Buffy's counselling job helping her relate to the Potentials, that would have been good too.

"You got twelve, and they got twelve. The old ladies are just as good as you are." -Dr. Einstein

Bought the British SFX magazine's special Buffy which (among other things) ranks all 144 episodes. I disagree with a lot of the rankings (inevitably) but still interesting. Their top episodes for Season 7 are:

Chosen #8

Selfless #18

LMPTM #22

Storyteller #34

End of Days #37

CWDP #39

Their top 10 Buffys (in order #1 to #10) are:Hush, OMWF,Restless, The Body, Innocence, Becoming Pt.2, Surprise, Chosen, What's My Line Pt. 2, Fool For Love.

Notable in that they don't have a single Season 3 Ep. in the top 10.
