The storm here yesterday cut off all power to our building as I was in the middle of composing a post. Rude.

hundreds of teenage girls. You seriously believe that's not a recipe for disaster?
'NSync is screwed....
BWAH!!
One of my favorite things about the speech is that it acknowledged that Sunnydale as a whole knew that something was going on (why the hell did they stay?). The "we know that our school isn't like other schools" line satisfied one of my big issues with the show, which was how do these people not NOTICE this shit.
Plus, the "we're not friends", harkening back to "Earshot" was nice. and it was so "high school eloquent" - "When something weird happened, you seemed to show up and stop it".
Yep. I enjoyed the “OK, so we’re all pretty self-involved, and we live on that river in Egypt most of the time, and, yeah, it’s just a lame umbrella. But, thanks.”
And I'd add to the shed tear list Faith beating herself up in the church.
Yeah – that was something.
OK, well, so this is basically just a reaction post. I’m still miffed I got tossed off last night because of the storm, and for whatever reason, this makes me feel better. Cool storm, though. Except for the three seconds where my office was plunged into total darkness (not a window in sight) before the emergency lights went on. That was spooky.
Hmm. I love Chosen so much because I allegorized the Slayer empowerment scene, big time, almost from the moment I watched it. One thing I've been thinking about a lot the past couple of years, to the point where it's a running theme in my own fiction, is the importance of being willing and able to take power when it's offered to you, to make a way for yourself to be strong and follow your dreams. So Buffy's speech struck a chord for me, and every time I decide (and it is an ongoing process) that I'm not going to let anything stop me from finishing my novel and then starting my next one, that I'm going to find a way not to have to come back to this job after the baby is born, that I should make another donation to MoveOn or the Dean campaign, one of the encouraging voices in my head is Buffy's, saying "Make your choice. Are you ready to be strong?"
I know, I know. Big sap right here.
"Slayers will react differently. Rogue Slayers could easily lead to a civil war -- there would likely be more than one Faith. And it'll take time (assuming it's even possible) to find all the new Slayers."
I've fanwanked on this one before, Mr. Fred. I think we may be due, in one way or another, for the Slayers to start fighting each other. That brings with it a Highlander dynamic.
I've extended the theory to conclude that the reason that Melaka Fray is the "lone" slayer in the "Fray" comic is because the Slayers killed off both demons and other Slayers. I think what Buffy S7 did well was to project the kind of instability involved when so many egos (Slayers, potentials) collide.
My friend just told me she saw an ad on WB that they are going to show Buffy on Sundays from the beginning, is this true?
quite possibly. someone else mentioned the same thing upthread, I think.

It's poorly written, and misses an opportunity for good snark. Paraphrasing, it claims, "You should see the letters we get, but we're actually not going to give examples. Just believe us."
Honey, I can lend you crazy!mail to back up your claims.

Matt mentioned that he has seen those ads, over in the Angel thread. I haven't seen them yet, even though I've been taping the WB this past month. I can't find any mention of it on the WB's web site.

Maybe it's at the discretion of local affiliates?

Right on. I think they missed out by going with the "these folks are crazy, we snicker here alot" motif rather than a full-blown expose, because even though most of us have an idea of just how crazy, and a couple folks here have a stunningly clear picture of just how crazy, it still would have been pretty hilarious and frightening.
