Yes. What they should have done, was raise the driving age.

Not enough Wrod in Wrodville for this. And I speak as a person who was driving at 16 and just SUCKED at it for a really long time until I didn't suck at it anymore and so got cocky. And, all in all? A fairly responsible young girl on the whole -- still shouldn'ta been driving.

When I came to DC for school, I was grandfathered in for 18 being allowed to drink wine and beer, but needed to be 21 for hard liquor (they weren't very strict back then, lemme tellya'). I think (though I wouldn't bet kittens or money on it), that a year or two before that it was 18 for everything. By the time I was 21, 21 was the drinking age for everything and there were no more grandfatherees.

And, in Delaware, you by all liquor of any sort in liquor stores. Nothing in the grocery stores (I remember thinking how weird it was to be able to buy wine and beer at Safeway when I moved to DC -- now I can't get over what a pain in the ass it is to have to go to a liquor store for a bottle of wine when I'm visiting Delaware). Not sure about 7-11 type places, but I kind of think they don't sell liquor in Del. there either. Pretty sure that's the case.

Ummm ... and threadwise ... Oh, hell. It's late. I got nothin'.

My birthday's in February, so I turned 21 my last semester in college. I was suddenly very popular. "We need booze for the party this weekend, who's got a good fake ID? Wait! Connie's legal! And she only charges a quarter a bottle!"

What? Yes, I know it was a felony, I was a stupid kid, OK? Made a goodly amount of money, too, so I could buy my own favorite cheap wine. Mmm, Riunite Lambrusco, shades of my youth everytime I taste it. Boy, the liquor store people stared and stared at my driver's license, but they had to admit it was the real thing. YOu had to go to State Stores for hard stuff, but beer could be bought almost anywhere, including drive-thru places.

What?

Hey -- I never charged. And I kept buying, if needed until I was nearly thirty.

As dumb things go, it's less dumb than speeding. Which I do all the time.

*The second one was a short year, about a year after my originally scheduled graduation date. I had a couple incompletes that I let slide, you see. It really only took me 4.5 years of dicking around all told.
