Natter 78: I might need to watch some Buffy for inspiration
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place.
Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Shana tovah, Buffistas. And thank you, Nilly, for your sweet note. May the love you show us always be reflected back to you as needed.
Scheduling the Rapture on Rosh HaShanah feels like somebody didn't check their calendar, but maybe that's just me.
Just in case the Rapture doesn't happen, Fat Bear Week voting opens at noon ET today!
Happy Birthdays to Matilda and Emmett.
I saw T at mom’s house the other day which was awesome! And now she’s headed here today. This is a thing I was trying to avoid because my house is a cluttered mess. We haven’t been home much on the weekends to do much about it, and I’ve been in too much pain to do much on my own. So I just did two hours of whirlwind cleanup (which I am definitely going to pay for tomorrow), and I am attempting to embrace the principle of good enough.
More than good enough, because T want to see you. Trust me on this.
To the surprise of no one, I have not been raptured!
Sadly two of the downtown alley cats I feed (a father and daughter) seem to have disappeared. I hope they've just relocated together, as both being caught or taken in as rescues together seems unlikely. Poor ancient Jo Jo looks to be the last cat standing in that particular alley.
Maybe the cats are the only ones who were raptured.
But also maybe the rapture is later tonight?? Or was it supposed to be yesterday and now we know it’s done?
According to Instagram the Rapture is today??
See, when I first saw something about the Rapture being this week I am quite certain it was supposed to be on Wednesday. Typical.

The gates are open, right, so maybe that’s the easiest time to do it. I am not a theologian.
I took today off from work for the holiday intending to work in the yard but it’s a high of 97 so that probably won’t happen. Working from home tomorrow, will I be able to tell if half the company is raptured? Maybe not. Was reminded by FB memories that we had a big layoff on Rosh Hashana one year, hopefully that will not happen this year. They did wait until I was back in the office to tell me I was affected and offer a demotion and pay cut, so it’s not a totally irrational worry, especially with a state bill banning the distribution of PTFE cookware sitting on the governor’s desk. But if that happens I will have plenty of time to chainsaw the blackberry bushes, so that’s a comfort.
Hope you are having another great visit, sj!

When I googled it last night, the top answer said the Rapture would be today OR tomorrow. And, you know, I've got a lot scheduled, so they really need to be more precise about this.
For instance, I am about to go pick up Tim from chemo treatment #3 (4 more to go), stop at CVS for liquid oxycodone for him (he's already at that point with pain in his mouth and throat), and then edit a long article with very confusing percentages. If I knew I was going to be Raptured, I'd just stay put. (Who am I kidding? I am definitely not going to be Raptured.)
Rapture might be an improvement. I'm open to alternatives.
Timelies all!
My mom officially went into hospice care today. I flew down on Friday afternoon, spent much of Saturday and Sunday in her hospital room, and flew back Sunday night. (The flight was 2 hours late taking off due to mechanical issues, so I didn't get home until after midnight.) It was really hard seeing her like this. She slept most of the time. When she was awake, she didn't recognize me.(She didn't recognize my brother when he was down earlier in the week) Her kidneys have cleared up, but there's an infection and fluid in her lungs that wasn't responding to treatment.
No one knows how long she has. At least the last thing I said to her before I left was "I love you".
