I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

If you had ordered through NoirDash, your sandwich would have been delivered by a grizzled detective with a drinking habit.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Or maybe a dangerous dame. Either way I probably wouldn’t actually get the sandwich.

Which I did not, so…hmmmm

Always Anti-fascist!

Or, Dana, possibly a blonde with great legs.(ETA: -t, Jinx!) In a modern story, there might be some overlap.

The Maltese Sandwich

The tragedy of the sandwich shop on the next corner closing is that, in addition to having the best coffee in the neighborhood, all their sandwiches had been named after characters in The Maltese Falcon. (The building is home to Sam Spade's apartment and is where Dashiell Hammett wrote TMF.)

Always Anti-fascist!

I wish I could stop by... my biggest break as a writer to date features collectors' copies of TMF and started its life as "Dashiell Hammett Picked Up A Crayon" because some site I tried to write for and never got in took a firm stand on either fanfiction or reprints by saying "Not ever. Even if you are the best writer since Dashiell Hammett picked up a crayon," and I wanted their attention, which I never got. It finished up in Ellery Queen as "Shelf-cocked" and I've had a soft spot for Dash ever since, even though writing-wise, I still prefer Raymond Chandler.

So my jackass brother who couldn’t come to Toronto with us for three days in July to see our elderly aunts because he didn’t feel right leaving his crazy Russian wife on her own is now planning a 10 day visit out here (without her, as far as I know) followed by a back-to-back overseas work trip. Why must they be so fucking extra?

If the crazy Russian wife is left at home, I'd recommend saccharine concern for her wellbeing since it was such an issue last month, along with frequent reminders to check in with her whenever the subject of doing something fun and recreational is brought up.

The Maltese Sandwich

That does sound good. I might do basil instead of mint. Then again, I might need to try the mint just in case it really is just right

The tragedy of the sandwich shop on the next corner closing

Woes! I love places like that. And good coffee!
