I am looking forward to fancy sorbets.
-t thanks for letting me know I'll try some ice cream at some point and see if I have issues with it .
I saw on TikTok someone made watermelon sorbet by taking watermelon and blending it with some honey and then freezing it so I might try that at some point.
Even though it currently feels like 98F all the cats are outside really soaking up the heat. It confuses me. They are stretched out on the porch and will come in for a minute before wanting to go back outside
That is a heckuva name
Sounds like he's got a randy johnson.
I used to love it when Wang would face off against Dickey.
Pujol was always a favorite for one of my friends for the adolescent humor
Thanks for the birthday wishes, folks! It's 95 degrees here with a heat index of THE SUN, so I'm celebrating my birthday with my one true love, central air conditioning. Though we'll probably go have sushi after Tim gets home.
Since I just had the carpal tunnel surgery, I'm still off work today, so I slept late, read for a while, and took a nap. Pretty good lazy day.
The Mets just signed left-handed pitcher Dicky Lovelady to their roster
That is for sure a baseball name if I've ever heard one!
I was thinking back to produce in the 70s and where we got the good stuff was growing our own in the backyard or buying from some guy with a panel truck on the side of the road.
I am endlessly jealous of people in California who can just walk outside and pick an avocado from their own magical avocado tree.
Getting an extra day sitting at the cabin while I wait for FedEx to bring me the car keys that my sister accidentally took home with her this morning.
It’s 94° today and her car AC is on the fritz so I’m pretty sure having to do that drive twice more today will result in a mental breakdown. Well, worth the $43 to overnight ship instead.
In the meantime, I’m waiting for it to get cool out enough for me to go do some yardwork I didn’t get to. And maybe take another dip in the
lool.
Let me back up. We went out Friday night and got an inflatable pool for this beastly hot weekend. Because the water from the hose is straight from the well and totally unfiltered, it’s actually a lot more like lake water than pool water. So now it’s the lake pool, aka the lool.
(I could back up even further and tell you that the reason we went and got an inflatable pool was because I had one in the shed for five years that we never set up, which we got out on Friday afternoon, only to discover the filtration system and a note inside saying “pool is in the garden center, it was wet”. So in fact, I’ve been storing a mostly empty, though strangely heavy, box for five years. And if it hadn’t taken me five years to open said box or if I had a clear memory of which of the many dollar stores around here, I probably bought it from, I’d be real salty about that.
At that point in the process, we were invested enough that there was nothing for it, but to heading into Lake Geneva, and find a new one.)
Lazing with A/C with sushi to come sounds excellent! Disclaimer: I have never personally harvested an avocado.
Oof, brenda! Hooray for FedEx and lools
my one true love, central air conditioning.
"Thank you, Mr. Carrier!"
Happy birthday, Steph!
My niece’s family were here all last week (they live in Wisconsin), so I spent every non-work waking moment doing family things or gardening. Four kids under 6 = a lot of noise and chaos. So while I was vaguely aware of events in Iran and Israel, I didn’t really have time to focus on them. On one hand, it seems frivolous to be playing water fights with the kids when there’s a war happening. On the other hand, not playing water fights with the kids wouldn’t help anything. So. Did you know they make reusable water balloons? ‘Cause they do.
Sushi was takeout because we didn't want to go back out in the swamp-ass weather. Very tasty sushi!
Happy birthday sushi!
I had a nice healthy salad. And then I followed it with a whole bunch of cheese and nuts and some leftover tiramisu. Whoops.
