You're talking to Serenity. And, Early... Serenity is very unhappy.

Our wings are not tired.

In much better news, today is Askye's birthday! I hope you have a delightful day and that the year to come brings improved health, along with plenty of joy and laughter.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Many happy returns of the day, askye! I hope today is good to you!

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Erika, I like the poem a lot. Nilly & Shir - good to see your pixels. You are in my thoughts constantly.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Happy birthday, askye!

Grey, cold Monday morning but I did my 9am Pilates. And after four months of Pilates at three times a week, there's been a lot of progress. I reached a new plateau of competence before last week and I'm starting to do some intermediate level exercises.

We're waiting for Matilda's doctor to get back to her to discuss her bloodwork results. (No thyroid, low iron or Hep-C issues, but some clear deficiencies like Vitamin D, HGL etc. So probably needing some change to diet and supplements). She's also begun to taper off Zoloft and overlapping with beginning Prozac, so I'm hoping her body chemistry is sorted out before she starts college.

She was looking at some colorful bedding for her dorm room yesterday so she seems ready to make that change.

We had a good Father's Day yesterday. Emmett came over and I got a pizza. We didn't watch Local Hero - I'm saving that for my birthday. We watched Something Wild, which is a huge favorite from my 80s days, and I got to explain that Melanie Griffith is Dakota Johnson's mom. (And then that Melanie herself was a nepo-Baby, being the daughter of Tippi Hedren. )

Also, I managed to vacuum and clean house in advance of my MiL's visit so that's a plus. If I can get my dishes done and make an onerous phone call or two, I'll feel pretty productive at the beginning of my week.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Something Wild

The Feelies! Su Tissue!

Also, filmed in the town I grew up in!

The Feelies! Su Tissue!

Matilda was all over seeing Su Tissue's name in the credits.

I explained to them both the Great Importance of the Feelies. Plus the cameos ("That's John Sayles, a director. There's John Waters!" "Those two ladies at the thrift store are Demme and David Byrne's moms!")

I forgot that Brenda Sauter was rocking a world class mullet in that movie.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Happy Birthday, askye!

She's also begun to taper off Zoloft and overlapping with beginning Prozac

Yay #TeamProzac. After trying every damn SSRI, I'm amused that the granddaddy SSRI, the OG, has worked so well for me for so long. (And the beauty of Prozac is that its half-life is so incredibly long that you can miss a dose without getting brain zaps. Although I'm not encouraging Matilda to skip Prozac doses.)

My fever was gone when I woke up (yay!), but it came back after lunch (boo!) and is hanging around even though I took Tylenol. This illness can hit the bricks any time now. Fortunately the article I had to edit today was short, so I might go take a nap.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I took a hammer to some kitchen cabinets last night, which was quite therapeutic. When I ordered a new fridge, I carefully measured the height and knew I was gonna have to take some of the trim off of the cabinets above. Did not realize I was actually going to have to remove the whole cabinet to get the right width.

The cabinets are due to come down later this summer so it was a victimless crime. And they took the old crappy fridge away, even though I didn’t actually pay for them to do that.

I’m doing a kind of half ass kitchen reno in entirely the wrong order to what you’re supposed to do. Basically the gas stove started acting unpredictably, and it all snowballed from there. So now I have new appliances, but have not yet torn down and replaced the cabinets or painted or replaced the flooring.

But it’s at the cabin so it’s low stakes and any changes are good changes.
