Natter 78: I might need to watch some Buffy for inspiration
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place.
Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I hope it flew right past you, dcp. And the gathering does sound lovely.
I also would have been miserable sitting in the sun for hours.
Yeah, that's not something I generally do when I'm feeling awesome, so... definitely not while sick. (I mean, I like sunshine, don't get me wrong, but in the stands, there's often little respite but ducking inside, and if it's super hot and with my pale-ass skin...)
Hope it misses you, dcp!
Always sucks to miss out on something fun because you feel bad, lisah. Compound interest sort of thing. Woo Wordle in 2, though!
I realized at 8 exactly that I should have been starting work and had yet to get out of bed, so that's how my day is going. No reason for it, just time blindness and general disinclination to do anything at all ever (and trouble getting to sleep last night but that is very usual)
I got up and started work. But I have a terrible muscle ache in my neck/back so am laying with a heating pad hoping it’ll go away and cursing that I can’t find my stupid rice-filled microwaveable thing. It’s been a good 45 min and it still hurts so I’m frustrated
Virtual warm neck rubs, meara.
Woo Wordle in 2, though!
Same. Love when that happens.
Skinner is very sociable.
Skinner is a sweetie. Give him some scritches from me!
Same. Love when that happens.
Me three!
I hope the roadtrip and pet wrangling go well, Laura.
And I hope you dodge the virus, dcp.
I’m still job hunting. I’d hoped to ride out the rest of my career at the university, but that seems unlikely.
Anyway, I’m still enjoying working in my allotment garden. More nasturtiums and beans have sprouted. And some things are coming up that prompt the evergreen question, “Did I plant that, or is it a weed?” Yesterday I went out to water and fertilize everything. There are some allotments that people evidently reserved and then never did anything with. The Canada thistle is nearly hip high in some of them. I can’t imagine the absent gardeners would choose to show at this point of the season, but if they did, wow—I would not envy them clearing those weeds.
I’m also enjoying the sense of middle aged community (some are older or younger, but the trend is 40-50-ish). Everyone is minding their plots, with little jaunts to see how things are going in other people’s and chat about rain, deer, what’s over- or under-performing.
Continued job~ma, Calli. The community vibe of the garden sounds lovely.
Protests this Saturday are right on my beach. The gathering spot is precisely 1 mile south of me, but it will spread in both directions as the available space is narrow. 10 AM - 12:30, but the weather app shows clear skies, so it's seriously toasty conditions. Windy on the beach, so that should help.
Community garden sounds like a good thing all around, Calli. Pleased you are enjoying it
It's been unpleasantly overcast and cold for the last few weeks, and I'm ready for it to be over.
I'm not asking for the moon, San Francisco, but some 70 degree temps in June would be nice. (This is all compounded by my heater not working so it's 53 and brisk inside my house.)
One of Matilda's friends called me and her at 2am in the morning because she was having a panic attack and her parents were away. So she got let in, and Matilda helped her regulate and she slept in the Garden Apartment.
You know what parents fuckin' hate? 2am calls related to teenager crisis.
I had to get Matilda up at 6:45am this morning because the couple who use her as a babysitter needed her to take one of their kids to camp this morning. So that's an Uber ride from our house, a Waymo ride with kid from their house, and an Uber ride home by 9:30. (They're paying for the Ubers and Waymos, of course, plus paying for her time.)
She's got a busy day for a change with the morning babysitting, and Pilates later and therapy after that. And she's been diligently following up on the series of medical appointments and will see an ENT soon to check out her deviated septum issues.
