Well, if we followed the recipe...should be cake. A demon-violence-free-zone cake.

Punishingly Intricate

For a holiday gift exchange she sent us the most beautiful glass Canadian passport ornament. It’s one of my favorites.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

This part of getting old really fucking blows.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I’m so sorry to hear about Sue. She was a lovely person.

I participated in one of the local No Kings protests today. At the time I was a little disappointed that I didn’t run into anyone I knew. Then I got home and saw I’d misspelled “government” on the sign, so now I’m kinda glad I didn’t. Still, the turnout was great, and everyone seemed pretty high energy.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

It's spelled "gubmint", FYI.

Looks like Sue died of Bile Duct Cancer which is "rare and aggressive."

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

This part of getting old really fucking blows.

Amen to that. And also fuck cancer.

Rather than going to the big downtown protest today, I went to a smaller one up at Lake Forest Park Town Center, which has the benefit of having plentiful parking nearby and being a stand-and-wave-signs protest rather than a march. This combines to make it easy to leave whenever you want or need to, which is nice when one, say, has a dodgy back. It's the third protest I've been to at the location, and it's a visibly larger crowd every time.

I was chatting with two women standing near me, and one of them kinda squinted at me and said, "You look really familiar. Is your name Susan by any chance?" She looked familiar to me too, so I started listing off possible places/interests we might've met. When I said writing, she said, "That's it!" We figured out that we'd both been members of two different local RWA chapters 10-15 years ago, and she'd attended the Emerald City Writers Conference when I was on the planning committee and had a visible role.

I'm just amazed that anyone could remember the name of someone they didn't know super well and hadn't seen in over a decade. (Her name was Erin, but I never would've remembered it on my own.) And also a bit heartened that I'm still recognizable given that I was a lot younger and a good bit slimmer then!

Our wings are not tired.

I did not go, but S Florida did well with attendance. A couple thousand in Boca and another couple thousand at a couple of Ft. Lauderdale locations. I haven't seen all the numbers. My sister went to the Old Forge tiny event where it was 25F. She said she used her seat warmers on the way home and alternated sitting on one hand then the other while driving. She is 77 years old and you can't keep her down. eta: I searched FB and found a picture of her in the snow with her sign. About 60-70 people in the tiny town. Red district.

It is good that it was hot and breezy yesterday, because today it is rainy and very windy.

Arrogant Bonobo

Hi all. I haven't been here for a while but I was a good friend of SueO's when I lived in Halifax. I'm sorry you weren't updated on her passing earlier. Sue and I met at work and bonded over Buffy, both posting on the old Table Talk threads, while sitting next to each other at the office. Another former poster here Ouise was also part of our local Buffy group and she sadly died about ten years ago.

I moved away from Halifax in 2013 and now lament not keeping in closer touch with her over the years. Reach out to your old friends if you can because you never know when they might be gone. :(
