And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Happy birthdays to all of the post-Christmas Buffista babies!

Ugh. My father seems to be rapidly declining and is not completely lucid, and unable to get up to use the bathroom now…but is lucid enough that when EMTs came he answered their questions and refused to go to the hospital. My poor sister is at her wits end (like yes, he’s been dying for years, but is this a stupid UTI and he’s just being stubborn and has decided it’s his time??)

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, man, meara, how very difficult!

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

Thanks, Laura. It's very strange to be 70.

Our wings are not tired.

Ugh, meara. No fun. Frequent UTIs are a big issue with the elderly. It seems they never get rid of it completely. And it causes problems beyond the incontinence.

Happy birthday, quester! I can well imagine it does feel strange, but I am very glad to get the actual report!

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Happy birthday, quester!

I’m sorry, meara. It’s a hard thing to watch. I hope your sister can get your dad to get some sort of medical attention.

Things have been very family focused for me over the past several days. The WI branch of the family came to stay at my sister’s on Christmas, and on Saturday we went to the Henry Ford museum (with an unexpected social justice section). We had an ice storm Friday night, so I lost power in my apartment and ended up joining everyone at my sister’s for longer than expected, staying the night on my sister’s sofa with my cat locked in the laundry room so we could stay warm. I love them all, but at several points there were four children under 7 gathered together, and that meant a lot of noise chaos. Power has now been restored, and I’m enjoying a nice, quiet evening in my living room.

Four children under 7 would definitely have me longing for my peace and quiet!!

I made it home in one battered-feeling piece! I feel a bit bad because I’d told my housesitter I’d be home late tonight, and got back around 7, and she was still packing up and making dinner. But she and her gf finished packing up and took off and now Rory and I are on the couch.

Apparently my brother bought a last minute flight to Connecticut and is going to try to convince my dad to go to the hospital, but it’s looking like this may be it. I am a bad daughter but I really don’t want to fly out there to see him (especially if he’s not very with it). I did it for my mom, and was very glad I got to say goodbye. But not sure I need that with dad. But then I feel guilty.

Our wings are not tired.

Trust yourself on this meara. You don’t want your last memories to be fighting with him about getting care. Your brother can handle this. I’m sorry it is so hard.
