"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Ugh, 15 dead at a shooting at a beach in Australia at a Hannukah event.

Thrive to spite them

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about Norah. I was thinking about her last week because I was thinking about ita.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Goodness—Norah. I’m so sorry.

Our wings are not tired.

My inbox shares more horrible news. Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were apparently murdered in their home yesterday. I avoid watching the news these days, but still read my newsletters. The reports on FB are really more than awful.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I’m out doing what is hopefully the last of my holiday errands. I just picked up three different shirts for ltc to choose from for her holiday concert. Fingers crossed she likes one of them. Parenting a preteen is not for the weak.

By their son. It's so horrible. Makes me think of Phil Hartman murdered by his wife, and Marvin Gaye killed by his father.

I'm back to Pilates this morning. I'm in no way ready but here I go.

Good luck with that, sj. I can imagine the challenge of picking out clothes for kids once they have opinions.

That was sad and shocking news out of LA yesterday. In a spate of horrible news of murders in the last few days.

I'm back to Pilates this morning. I'm in no way ready but here I go.

Good for you for getting back at it, Hec!

I just checked the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament site to see what weekend it will be in the coming year (April 10-12 for those interested), and I saw that they are moving it to Philly in 2027. Bigger hotel with a ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,200 hundred, I think, so it makes sense (and is super more convenient for me, personally; I'll take it.) Probably weird for the regulars, though I guess they were in New York for a couple of years, too. Anyway.

Who's thinking of going in '26? Registration for previous attendees opens on Jan. 1, and for "rookies" on Jan. 8th. Just sayin'...

That was my first thought too. It is so horrific and tragic for the family, and all of us. And of course, the orange blight made it all about him. I just can't.

I think I have to focus on distraction today.

Thanks, Jen. She’s so opinionated about everything now which is hard when I just don’t have time to take her shopping. She cleaned out like half her closet from last year to sell or donate.

The news has been absolutely awful this weekend. I’m hoping my home state doesn’t f up the investigation into the university shooting.

Punishingly Intricate

On top of all the national and international terrible news this weekend another beloved local business (a family-owned hardware store) burned down last night.

And a way too young colleague of my friends in the Hopkins emergency department passed away unexpectedly yesterday. He was a pediatrician who specialized in treating abuse victims. The med school students are devastated.
