Just got back from Sinners. That was some good shit, like "This movie is someone's master's thesis" level of Things To Say, and I will see you all in the Tumblr tags.
I had a couple times where I anticipated the jumpscare, and a couple I didn't. I think the gore felt...anatomical, rather than gory? And, yeah, not gratuitous.
I could never pull off, but covet deeply, the knit dress Mary wore at the train station, both as a knitter and as a person who wears clothes.
Going to see Sinners tomorrow.
Sinners is fantastic. I was afraid of the horror/gore, but it was fine. I loved Lovecraft Country, which was a little gorier, honestly. Still some gratuitous blood spurting, but totally worth it.
And I bailed on the theater when my friend bailed.
Sinners really was just as good as y'all said. It would be worth seeing for the music alone, but it's all so damn good.
Yep. My only real criticism is of the actiony part of the last act, but that's in light of me having seen a million vampire movies. Nothing that's going to bother most moviegoers, and certainly doesn't eclipse all the brilliant work done on the rest of the scenes.
I swerved away from my normal watching movies off my Oscar list (anything ever nominated) and watched Now You See Me and Split last night.
Underwhelmed by the first. James McAvoy was great in the second, twisty director aside I found it all really good.
Now You See Me: A group of douchebag magicians hold a competition to see which of them is the biggest douchebag, with the twist ending that
Mark Ruffalo
was the biggest douchebag all along!

I so want this to be good. High marks for that subtle shift in demeanor and voice when he goes from Clark to Superman.
The number of characters in this movie seems like too much, but Gunn proved with GotG he can introduce a large cast well, so I'll be cautiously optimistic.
I will say after the recent string of ruggedly handsome silver fox Pa Kents seeing one that actually looks like an old farmer threw me for a loop.
