I thought a twist was unnecessary and made an otherwise good movie feel lessened somehow gimmicky.
Buffista Movies Across the 8th Dimension!
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Fair enough. It worked for me, and fit well with how all the candidates had something that maybe made them unfit and we (or Lawrence) have to grapple with how much that matters.
What movies have you found to hit your maximum level of comfort with them without exceeding it?
The IWTV TV show is about my upper limit for blood, and I hate jump scares.

There's only a few things that I considered jump scares and it's not much bloodier than IWTV, but it sounds like it would be rough for you.
Sinners is a FANTASTIC movie and deserves ALL the awards. All of them. If it's only nominated for a music category, I will seethe. If it's only nominated for a music category and loses, I will need to punch the Academy voters.
All. Of. Them. Acting! Directing! Costumes! All the music ones! Original screenplay!
Coogler and company deserve it.
Atropa got to hear my full thoughts on that matter over text. Fuck this up, members of the Academy, and it's pistols at dawn.
One more sleep until the Boeing IMAX showing.
My god, yes. That was amazing.
I tried to pay attention to the gore level, and it seemed to me that while it was pretty bloody and the violence was violent I would not describe it as gory. But I can’t explain what I mean by that, so probably not helpful.
Need to buy the soundtrack immediately

I think it is safe to say that when Tom Cruise is hyping seeing your film on IMAX on social media that you will get nominations.
I had a few issues with it trying to do too much but I was also sitting 4th row center in IMAX 70mm which was really too close for me to truly appreciate it. I was hoping to go back, but no better seats were to be found before Thunderbolts kick it off IMAX tomorrow.
There were definitely a few spots I preemptively covered my eyes and (once) my ears, but I didn't think it was too bad in terms of gore/body horror. I'd say there was a decent amount of blood though. (My issue is incisions and the like, or, in the case of vampire movies, staking, so I don't really care about people and clothing just being bloody.) I jumped in my seat a couple of times but I don't think anyone else did. Note: I also teared up at one point.
The cast is incredible (really hoping they end up with the new casting Oscar) as are the costumes and production design. The music was glorious. Made me revisit the blues playlists I made in the wake of my road trip to the Mississippi Delta (the one I did mostly with my sister but ended with me and msbelle driving from NO to DFW).

I am so jealous of your access to IMAX 70 mm!

See, this totally makes sense to me, yet I ALSO can't explain it! Maybe it's that it's not gratuitous?
Maybe? Glad I am not alone, anyway
