Timelies all!
The Giant branch that was about 2 blocks from us closed a couple years ago.(It wasn't our primary supermarket, but was good for picking stuff up after work.) Nothing replaced it, and a few more businesses in that strip mall closed. Last thing I heard, the owners of that space were trying to get permission to demolish the building, and turn the space into townhouses.
I've always found cinnamon brooms to be overwhelming. I've been known to flee stores that have large displays of them.
3 large bags of leaves out front. Now I need to go do a portion of the alley. Uhg.
3 bags out back. I could do a fourth, but my shoulders are angry enough.
4 vintage military prop planes flew low overhead while I was out. USAF and Navy were marked on two. Wonder what that was for. And damn, they're loud and deep.
I need to hire someone to deal with the leaves in my yard, which also include last year's leaves. I've been living in a dreamworld in which I thought I'd feel like yard work any day now.
Things like the Paris attacks have so many ripples that go through the families and friends of the dead and injured. I noticed one little drama that reminded me of what Anne Perry says in her books about murder changing everything (and she should know). First I saw a story in which a woman recounted the death of the band's merchandise manager, who died in her lap and was, she said, "the love of my life." Then I saw an article about his girlfriend in Great Britain, who was frantically searching for news about him. Then there was a third article in which the first woman was pointedly referred to as his "ex-girlfriend" and the current female partner called him "the love of my life."
I just caught up on 500+ posts (okay, I mostly skimmed). Wow, so much has been going on, here and in the world.
A couple of quick notes:
It'd be cool if you coulod arrange for burial at sea.
You can, actually. I only know this because my dad informed me that he has already paid for this for himself via the Neptune Society: [link]
I don’t know how I feel about diving through all the ashes of human remains, including my father’s. It’s not like the ocean isn’t full of such things, but it’s an odd thing to consider.
In less morbid news, YAY CHILE! That sounds amazing, meara!
And in terms of ND and the business, it’s great to have success, but I worry about the fact that he has been working 100-120 hours a week (no exaggeration) for the past month.
Haggen started here in town, the family's from here. My primary thought about them is that they're pronounced "Hay-gen". As my street is pronounced "Sammish" and spelled Samish. PNW vowels exist differently from southeastern vowels.
Hey Buffistas - thanks for all the support and pimpaage of the Kickstarter project. Much appreciated.
I didn't know all the back story, Typo. It definitely looks fishy to me, even given the possibility that Albertsons defrauded them of their inventory.
I'm pretty sure Lucky's was bought by Albertson's at some point.
Yep, the store that's closing was a Lucky's for many years before it was an Albertsons. And long before that, in the deep recesses of my childhood memories it was Leonard's, a strange not-exactly-Target-but-similar kind of place where you could buy things like household goods, cleaning supplies, school supplies, and most importantly TOYS and CANDY if you could talk mom into taking you there on Sunday after you got your allowance.
Oh! That reminds me! I haven't paid the kids' allowance yet.
