The status is NOT quo.

I just caught up on 500+ posts (okay, I mostly skimmed). Wow, so much has been going on, here and in the world.

A couple of quick notes:

It'd be cool if you coulod arrange for burial at sea.

You can, actually. I only know this because my dad informed me that he has already paid for this for himself via the Neptune Society: [link]

I don’t know how I feel about diving through all the ashes of human remains, including my father’s. It’s not like the ocean isn’t full of such things, but it’s an odd thing to consider.

In less morbid news, YAY CHILE! That sounds amazing, meara!

And in terms of ND and the business, it’s great to have success, but I worry about the fact that he has been working 100-120 hours a week (no exaggeration) for the past month.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Haggen started here in town, the family's from here. My primary thought about them is that they're pronounced "Hay-gen". As my street is pronounced "Sammish" and spelled Samish. PNW vowels exist differently from southeastern vowels.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hey Buffistas - thanks for all the support and pimpaage of the Kickstarter project. Much appreciated.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I didn't know all the back story, Typo. It definitely looks fishy to me, even given the possibility that Albertsons defrauded them of their inventory.

I'm pretty sure Lucky's was bought by Albertson's at some point.

Yep, the store that's closing was a Lucky's for many years before it was an Albertsons. And long before that, in the deep recesses of my childhood memories it was Leonard's, a strange not-exactly-Target-but-similar kind of place where you could buy things like household goods, cleaning supplies, school supplies, and most importantly TOYS and CANDY if you could talk mom into taking you there on Sunday after you got your allowance.

Oh! That reminds me! I haven't paid the kids' allowance yet.

Raking leaves is not conducive to a fast swim. Allergy wheezy and really achey shoulders.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Ugh, cover letters are the worst, right? The absolute worst thing in the world.

Our wings are not tired.

FWIW, I appreciate cover letters I get and find them very helpful.

hip deep in pie

My cover letter is pretty formulaic now, and uses bullet points, but I apply mostly to gov't or big bureaucratic jobs, where I know there's strictly skill/competency matching going on.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I actually just had to search for a conversation we had in Natter about moving from a higher-paying job to what will inevitably be a lower-paying one.

So far, I've managed not to say "I feel like I work for Satan! Please save me!" in any cover letter.

Our wings are not tired.

I find reading the cover letters less mind numbing than reading the resumes. And they tend, by me, to be read more completely. Very often resulting in an instant potential file or trash decision without even looking at the resume. I may not be normal. It gives me a better feel for the person; my hiring is the opposite of big bureaucratic, and almost completely subjective.
