Am I the only one who remembers that within the last year we published an article about the massive decrease in deaths from opioid overdose in states with legal medical marijuana??? We're going to look like asses. I guess I should mention this to my boss when I return the editorial.
I'm also wondering if the claim that pot doesn't have proven therapeutic effects is due to the lack of controlled studies. I don't know if that's true, though.
I hope I'm not chiming in way too late since I've been conferencing with students for over an hour, but wanted to say I'm with you in that the unspoken agenda here seems to be there's no reason to change the status of marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule II but in fact there's all sorts of reasons, the most important being the need to have proper studies on it to see what, if any, medical properties it might have.
Oh, askye, I'm sorry. Packing and moving sucks so mightily, even when it's a necessary thing for a good reason; it's still just brutal.
Ugh askye, I feel for you. If it's any help, I am a strong proponent of throwing out the random inexpensive crap instead of packing it. You can always buy more later.
Doesn't everyone hit that point, when moving, where you just want to burn everything left? Best of luck, askye
Checked out a couple coworking spaces with a friend this morning. She looked at another yesterday (which was apparently gorgeous but overpriced). Could be fun. Now we are going to try to plan a trip. Not sure we want to do the same things though.

Yeah, I think that's part of the process.
This weekend: horror movie night tonight. Saturday, helping Dad move, which I'm laughably hoping won't be too stressful. Sunday, dealing with the basement, which will almost certainly flood due to the heavy rain we're getting the next few days.
Pete is in Atlanta, so I am dealing with all of this on my own. Whee.
Tonight: getting together with friends, bringing along apple crisp (yum).
Tomorrow: raking leaves at Tim's dad's house (HUGE yard), followed by possibly being told by Tim's dad to eat dinner outside in the 40-degree weather (no, really), in which case I am noping the fuck out of there so I can eat indoors like a civilized human. (Seriously, you ask your family to come over and spend hours raking your yard so you don't have to hire a lawn company, you don't even pay for pizza for your family who just spent hours raking your yard but tell them you want to eat barbeque and you will contribute one container of cole slaw [so someone else has to buy and bring the BBQ -- that's a whole other thing I'm pissed about], and THEN you tell them that after all that, and the sun has gone down, they can't eat the dinner [that they brought] inside the house??? I may be losing my shit in an epic way tomorrow night.)
If I'm lucky, I'll be drinking wine with Hil and her sister tomorrow night.
So I took the afternoon off work to participate in a professional meeting, virtually, including giving a talk about the summer seminar I teach. But they had internet problems at the place where the rest of the people are meeting, and so at this point I've changed into inside pants and put on a hat, so they'd better not suddenly get reconnected.
Then tomorrow I have to get up at 4:30 am to fly to DC to go to my grandfather's memorial. I think I need more romance novels on my Kindle.
Question: what white wines should I try? I dislike Chardonnay. I like Pinot Grigio, but it seems like a summer wine. What white wine can I try out for winter drinking? It needs to be widely available at the $10 bottle price point, i.e. I might love Pouilly-Fuisse, but it doesn't come cheaper than $25, so no. Signed, I really prefer red wine but it usually gives me a headache, because I am old and falling apart.

If you like Pinot Grigio, try Viognier.

Viognier's a good choice or a Sauvignon blanc or one of the drier Reislings.
