Sparky, allow me to pimp the Bryant Park Hotel literally across the street from the main branch of the NY Public Library.
I suspect I'm not cool enough to stay there.

Woo, Dana!
No more long weekends for me for a while. Alas. I could ALWAYS use one.
I also have a headache. I don't think migraine, but maybe, I am getting some weird vision things with it. Took some Tylenol, but it's still here. I think I will try to get through the rest of the work day, though, there isn't much more of it. Maybe take some ibuprofin.
I took the meth sudafed for pounding sinuses, but the pressure in my right ear is telling me to go take some migrane meds before things get out of hand.
And then maybe a nap, because I'm finished with work for the day.
I suspect I'm not cool enough to stay there.
I've stayed there (fashion week, no less) and nope. Few of us are. But they don't side-eye you about it. I'd stay there again for sure.
It's in my favorite bit of Manhattan architecture, the former American Radiator Building. [link] [link]
Wow, I'd rather stay somewhere that I could see it from. The library's across the street, you say?
Yes, in the middle of Bryant Park.
ND and I stayed at the Library once many years ago. Such a cool hotel!
Riding through Haight-Ashbury (waved in your direction Hec and JZ! But it was a v quick trip) I wondered...hippies and hitchhiking and all that seems so insane to me. Like, who would do that? But then I wondered if in 30 years people will be like "omg in the day you got in an Uber with just any old driver???"

Probably helps to remember that it wasn't just the counter culture that hitchhiked - it was common in lots of areas that weren't served by public transportation so large chunks of the populace did it as a matter of course. Jumping in the back of somebody's pick up truck on the way to town from your farm was the only way to get around.
Still, even then picking up a skeevy hitcher, or getting a ride from a creep was a well worn trope in crime stories.
