Oh Sara. I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. What a tragedy.

sara, I'm so sorry for your whole family. That is just unspeakably sad and awful. Wishing you all strength and comfort wherever it can be found.
Nashville is now on the board for my husband's job search. Interviews tomorrow.
Ooh! Keep us posted!
Oh, sara. So awful.
I am pleased that the last of the occupiers at Malheur NWR is in police custody, and the FBI picked up Cliven Bundy, who is so retrograde as to belong in a movie about the range wars of the 1870s.
Did you know that the reason those jackasses "built a road" with the federal bulldozer is because they thought it would magically "improve" the land, and give them ownership of the refuge? Oh, yeah, that's some magical legal thinking. (The Homestead Act does not apply to wildlife refuges!)
Anyway, the DOJ is bringing in an ART CRIME team to evaluate all the damage done to the archaeological sites and artifacts in storage, and there will likely be a raft of charges filed, just under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act, not to mention all the other stuff like threatening federal employees and theft of federal property.
I cannot WAIT for the trials. t rubs hands gleefully

That's the argument they're using in Southern Utah as part of a long-going battle to claim all the federal/public lands for private ownership, that the pioneer cattle paths and rutted wagon trails are proof of continuous use, so the lands they're on can't qualify for wilderness. It's a popular thing to do illegal ATV rides along anything that's identified as a trail on any map so they can claim it as a public thoroughfare. Bundy and his family and their buddies in southern Utah have a long history of threatening the BLM people down there, but the local officials are all pals/relatives/fellow church members of the Bundies et al. and got elected on the platform of wrestling that land away from the Feds/public and into the hands of the public/land developers. There are state-level legislators who are working diligently at getting public lands into the hands of the more deserving public, ie developers and the ranchers who object to paying the grazing fees they agreed to when they put their cattle on the BLM land.
We here in Utah have been following these people with glee and horror.
Sarameg, ND, I'm so sorry.
I am suffering because I didn't adult when I should have. Tooth pain is keeping me up for the 2nd night in a row. I tried to get a dental appointment today but tomorrow morning is the earliest they can get me in. So here I sit whimpering and watching the clock for when I can take another Advil.
Re: Facebook I seem to have a pretty well curated friends list (or the algorithm is working for me). I seem to have friends fairly evenly divided between Bernie and Hillary but all staying pretty respectful.

Which just fills me with rage, as a member of the public. Those lands belong to everyone, and should be stewarded, not exploited.
In other news, apparently the Boss (my new dog) is awesome. Seriously, the trainer at my obedience class has started talking about the 2018 German Shepherd National Specialty, which is in Reno. Which, you know, that's INSANE. I've never competed with a dog, although I've watched my sister put titles on a couple of her dogs.
But the Boss is smart and attentive and figures things out really fast. She's remarkable, especially since she was basically neglected for the first couple years of her life. So it's kind of tempting to think about competing with her. But I just don't think I have the discipline and drive to do the work it would take to be competitive in obedience with her.
Aw, awesome Boss.
17 F is below my threshold for human. As is being at work @7. But both are happening.
It’s supposed to hit 0° F (not including wind chill) here on Sunday.
And then back up to 48° by Tuesday.
