What are some good things to send in a care package to someone who is going through chemo and radiation?
Food is not necessarily a good thing, because treatment changes the way things taste. Soft things, a hat or scarf for when she loses her hair, easily transported distractions for when she's sitting in the treatment room.
Oh, no, Kate, that's horrible. I'm so sorry, for her and for you.
CATNIP is on the toxic list. Come on now.
For real? Huh. Danger of overdose, I guess?
Maybe I should actually read the list. I mostly plant stuff that is edible for humans and figure the cats will be okay, to. Also, mine are not big plant eaters, although Pixie does like her catnip.
PetSmart sells catnip potted in little plastic planters. My cats ignore it, despite that they like the dried concentrated stuff. I dunno, it makes me think this is a list of everything that could possibly be poisonous if a plant-loving cat ate enough, as opposed to, likely under normal circumstances.
The dog versions that you see especially at holidays are like that. Little to no distinction between actually poisonous, 3AM emergency vet stuff v. Let them eat too much and you'll be cleaning up puke foods.
To be fair, my one cat would eat a whole catnip plant, pull it out by the roots and chew on those if she had the opportunity. And I could believe that would make her sick.
I saw Oz start nomming down on the leaves of the foxglove in my garden. I freaked. But nothing happened. I don't think he consumed anything by the time I yelled at him.
I had catnip as an indoor plant once and my cat completely ignored it. Then one day I put the plants on the deck for a good soak and some sun, and CRASH. I never did get the number of the cat who stole that whole plant from its pot.
Kate, I'm so sorry about your friend. My friend's DH is going through chemo and we were thinking of gift certificate options for them. Some great suggestions besides food were housecleaning services and Uber to get the DH back and forth to appts. (Their car is in the shop.)
