Presence of orange tabby in the basement has turned Pumpkin into a hissing nutcase, so much so that Loki gets freaked out and goes and hides in the closets. I only reboot them by feeding treats progressively closer until they are cheek to jowl with no drama. And then Pumpkin remembers other cat and we reboot again.

Other girl prefers wet food to dry treats. And drools for ear rubs. And won't leave the top step now that I've blocked all the bolt holes. Which she was really annoyed about. BARCS is the morning, can't cope with all this drama.

Oh dear god, Loki is hiding under the bed.... He's such a baby.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Oh sarameg, such kitty tsuris!

Relatedly, Isaac and I met a couple neighbors while we were bike riding this afternoon. A very sweet, very pretty, black cat had just showed up in their yard, presented her belly for pets, and wolfed down a can of tuna. They feel obliged to try and find the original owners, sure, but I can already see that they are smitten, so... new cat!

Matt, I'd go with the Burke quote myself. An oldie but goodie. My mom used to keep that written out, in her own hand, on her desk. After she died, and long after she could no longer write, I stashed the note away because it was in her own hand.

Other cat got right pissy after being fed, clearly looking for a way out. No time for that. 11am, im at the shelter door.

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

I had the wonderful pleasure of having dinner with Matilda, David, JZ, shrift, and Sylvie. Delicious goat taco was delicious. As was the duck taco - thanks for sharing, David.

But the evening did not start without EXTRA ADDED GIFT WITH PURCHASE in the form of the clutch on my father's car deciding to give out part way up a very SF hill, in the middle of heavy traffic with no way to pull to the side of the road. After repeatedly trying to coax the car into behaving, I called my dad who brought their Leaf to my rescue. We traded off cars so I could meet up with the gang and he awaited AAA. My dad and his wife have been so gracious about it and I feel so responsible.

It was so fun.

Suzi managed to not only get stuck in traffic, she got stuck on a very steep hill with a not working car with people honking at her as she slid backwards. A little stressful. But she soldiered on and there were tacos waiting for her.

Our wings are not tired.

I would have been freaking out, SuziQ. I love driving a standard, but I live in a flat land. If I lost the clutch on a steep hill tears would happen. I did have some not fun times on icy hills in NY. Eeep! Very good that there was comfort and friendship at the end of your road. And tacos!

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

We were going to watch one of our Netflix disks last night, but ran into a problem. The player wouldn't open. Gary ended up calling customer service, which was minimally helpful. Ended up unplugging the thing, waiting a few minutes and replugging it in. That finally worked, and he was able to retrieve the disk that was in the machine, but it was too late to watch the movie.

brillig

7 degrees is an uncomfortable temperature to be scraping ice off your windshield. But the road to work wasn't icy for a change. And the sun should finish melting everything off the car. Not bad fort the last day of January.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Poor Tim had a root canal on Friday, and his pain level has been pretty bad all weekend, despite vicodin. And he woke up this morning with a lot of swelling. Our dentist gives patients his home number for after-hours/weekend emergiencies...but he left for vacation yesterday (it's a small office where he's the only dentist). He'll have a backup dentist while he's gone, but either he didn't give Tim that info, or Tim lost it.

But we found a dental practice that's open 7 days a week and has an emergency dentist on staff, so they can see him later today, thank goodness. I hope it's something easy to treat.
