Speaking of how do things happen, I apparently accidentally ordered a new laptop for my new hire, which wasn't in the departmental budget. I went back to see what I had done, and what I had written on the requisition form was: (desk currently has a desktop -- is there a laptop that could be used instead?) with no budget codes or anything!
