this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I'm weirdly upset about his death.

I was that way about Heath Ledger.

Addiction is so fucking brutal.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, no. That's awful.

I think I've gotten over thinking it's weird that these deaths of people I don't actually know upset me. This is a bad one.

hwæt

X-post from movies: [link]

He had undergone treatment for drug addiction in the past, and spoke in interviews about “falling off the wagon” last year after remaining clean for 23 years.

23 years.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Oh that's awful.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I actually did know him. He directed a play (largely about addiction) that I worked on. [link]

When we met I was asking him to please not stand directly under the very heavy lighting instruments the electricians were trying to lag bolt into the scenic beams and he asked me to call him Phil and started chatting about how naturally trusting he is.

23 years.

So he managed another 23 years of life and work than he might have. That's good.

Still sad, of course, but these kind of thoughts make me feel better.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

aurelia - you worked with Katy Sullivan in that production?

I'm with -t. Bless him for the well-fought battle.

It makes me sad to think that anything, or anyone could have toppled him after so long clean.

I sometimes wonder about a plumber in my neighborhood who has 30 years clean but EVERY day talks about how he's just one fuck up away from oblivion. He proudly states that he has never, ever taken a vacation that was not to an NA convention.

I tended to think he just has a flair for the dramatic. I will, from this point forward, take him more seriously.

Ha! That's so funny. We're friends with her and her husband.
