Spike: Lots of fuss over one girl. Other things to do around here--important things. Angel: You know that whoosh thing you do when you're suddenly not there anymore? I love that.

The internet is pretty dead. So dead that I've started the Food For Thought course on edX: [link]

Edit: Which I am enjoying!

I hemmed pants last night and repaired a pair of K's krav shorts. Tonight, I helped Grace and Noah do their science fair project. We kept it simple (how maps work) and looked at why you can't make a sphere flat without having extra space on a map.

Uhg, thought I heard what might have been a quartet of gunshots a couple hours ago. Or ice or tree branches. Checking local crime reporter's tweets, homicide is working 2 blocks north and several over, the one with the jesus victorian under constant renovation on the corner I pass everyday.

This won't make national news, not like the Columbia Mall. Nevermind it is a fairly stable residential street on the cusp, nevermind it is #19 or 20 since Jan 1. It's just Baltimore.

Mutterings mutterings.

Ugh, sara. I'm sorry.

It's just depressing, you know? This city I love, so broken in ways.

(I don't know if I need to clarify this, but this doesn't elicit fear in me. It's not that. It's the complex and sometimes toxic brew of society's -isms on display.)

Yeah, I feel you. From here in a city that people on the South Side have taken to calling ChIraq.

When TAL did the series on the high school in Chicago, I went google-touristing. And so many of those blocks I traversed, yeah, they looked like these blocks of Baltimore. Not the bombed out devastation of N. Monroe and many other areas, but worn but still somewhat tended older family homes. Written off at ChIraq, or Baltimore City.

I don't even know.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

This city I love, so broken in ways.

My neighborhood is fighting SO HARD in the face of gangs and shootings and drug deals that take place in broad daylight. There's so much good in my neighborhood, and so much deep, systemic damage.
