That's my girl, large and in-charge. Okay, teensy-weensy and in charge.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

So if kindergartners are 40-48 inches, what height needs a booster seat?

(I'm trying to illustrate a story, and she doesn't have these details, so I'm just trying to work out plausible references.)

information libertarian

I doubt I could get a kid of mine over 3 to sit in a booster seat at a restaurant. They are too wiggly and/or would rather kneel. Is a booster seat a plot point?

Because books.

Most five-year-olds aren't going to use a booster seat in a restaurant just on principle. Sara would still use one in the movies for a while, though, because it actually helped her see the screen better.

Most kids (again, most, not all) perceive kindergarten as Real School, conferring upon them Big Kid status, and boosters are not for big kids.

In a car it's required until, I think, 8 years or 80 lbs. or something.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

IME most 5 year-olds will insist they do not need a booster seat even if they do.

[haha, xpost]

Art Crawl!!!

Darn those kids. . .it's like they've got free will or something.

Because books.

In wow-I-need-to-catch-up-more news, I got through the second episode of S2 Downton and good god, Mary and Carson just kill me. It makes me a bit sad for her father, but at the same time, Carson so clearly adores her and considers her the daughter he never had, it's just lovely.

Also, hey, it's Ser Jorah!

Dylan is a tall 5 year-old and he's sitting at our dining room table now sans booster, and the table hits him an inch or so below armpit level. He is not missing any teeth.

(His birthday is June so he's smack in the middle of the kindergarten age range, but since his baby teeth came in so late I expect he'll lose them late as well.)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The booster seat isn't in the story, I just wanted to be sure I could have her not in one without losing plausibility.

Man, my adult teeth came in pretty early, but I had a relatively compressed period of tooth loss--five would be way early--if kids start that early, when are their teeth fully swapped over?

I know jackshit about "real" kids--I need to make sure whichever reference I choose from the internet (and that does sound creepy to me too) is sensible.

Amy can testify from my period of drawing Weechesters that they all blend together for me in terms of sizes...

Playing more or less the same plot, if you think about it.

Oh, thanks! This is very helpful.
