I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Yeah, that's the question, Consuela - I got this assignment really fast, but I don't know if that's what I can expect in the future.

OTOH, I still have a pretty good balance in my savings account and the part-time wages don't go very far towards covering my expenses, so how much security does holding onto it get me?

I've got training at that office tomorrow, so it would be a good time to quit if I'm gonna, is why I'm pondering all this right now.

I got this assignment really fast, but I don't know if that's what I can expect in the future.

If you're new with the temp agency and you got an assignment fast, that's a good sign. If you do a good job on this assignment, and get good reports from the client to the agency, the placement staff will make an effort to continue placing you in the future. You make them look good and make them money and they will use you, especially if you're reliable and let them know as soon as you're available for another position.

So the question is whether there are lots of temp positions out there that you would be placed in, and I suspect the answer is yes, because it's cheaper to higher temps for short-term jobs than hire full-time staff when the economic environment is uncertain.

OK, will work on letting go of the guilt feeling part, anyway. Y'all make sense about that.

I've already decided not to work Saturdays, so if I drop weekdays I'd be working Sundays only. SO that would be one shift of probably 2-6 hours, maybe 8 but probably not. So probably an average of $35/week or so? Yeah, that's not much.

Thanks, guys, it is helpful to get fresh perspectives. I'm not completely decided, still, but i am leaning towards bailing.

Eta: that is some extremely reassuring analysis, 'Suela!

Because books.

So probably an average of $35/week or so?

And if there's a lot of driving, gas might cost that much.

I had not even thought of that! It probably wouldn't be quite that bad, but gas could be a significant expense.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

It costs me $50 to fill my tank every 2 weeks.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Happy Birthday, Tommyrot!

I'd love to have one of those wood watches but I'm certain the clasp and stem would set off my metal allergy.

Small dogs can be very good watchdogs. When I was a kid, neighbors on either side were robbed multiple times but we never were. One night our miniature schnauzer woke us all up barking and snarling and we couldn't find anything amiss. The next morning we could see that someone had started to slice open a window screen. They didn't cut much before they were scared away.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Yeah, I wouldn't take enough home from working on Sundays to cover my gas expense in general, probably, but the marginal cost of just that additional driving wouldn't completely eat up my earnings. I just figured it out, and given if the job is more than about 20 miles away from me the company provides carpooling, I only have to work for about 40 minutes to break even on gas. And I get paid for a minimum of 2 hrs for every job I'm scheduled for. So that's all right.

What I learned in business school, ladies and gentlemen.
