Natter 71: Someone is wrong on the Internet
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I read the hotel information book. What? That's what it's there for! I also look at the evacuation map. I KNOW! But that's the kind of person I am, right there.
So we can't afford to go anywhere for spring break, and we've been having a motherfucker of a time lately, so we really need the break. So we've decided to pretend we were on vacation. We're going to go to a hotel and pick up all the local tourist information and then go to a local grocery and buy just what we need for the week and then we're going to go romp around our town like it's a trip. We have an awesome little rural town and lots of people actually vacation here, so why shouldn't we?
Oh, I look at the hotel book, too!
You'll be productive some other time, Lee.
Staycation, woo! I think being a tourist at home is awesome.
I don't actively look for the evacuation map, but I do study it when I come across it, even while thinking that I will probably not remember what it says in an emergency. never needed it, so that's nice.
BTW, Liese, my parents were telling me about a book that might interest you, A Spy's Guide to Santa Fe and Albuquerque by E B Held, a former CIA agent carefully using declassified documents to cover Trotsky, a bunch of atomic bomb intrigue, right up until it's too recent to talk about. Apparently he gives talks sometimes in the area, too.
Oh, I totally read all the hotel info, too.
Today was basically a wash, so here's hoping we actually do stuff tomorrow.
Also, that's an amazing nice person, -t!
Took a break from cleaning and packing. That was possibly a mistake, as I don't ever want to move again.
I only read enough to find out what this hotel offers that most don't, how do I get food, how do I get internet.
Cass, Art History was the only thing I chose easily--I'm signed up for two with Coursera, one May and one in the fall. I only really plan on taking one--we'll see. It's all the rest--the film studies, psychology, computer science, philosophy...what do I actually like enough to apply discipline to?
We sorted through 80 zillion receipts for taxes (seriously, having a self-employed spouse who travels all the time is HELL). This was made troublesome due to a fundamental schism here in Stately Fogelson Manor on The Right Way To Organize. I am totally right, but we are doing it the more complicated Jason way, because if we didn't he was going to have a nervous breakdown. Sometimes it sucks being the less anal one in a relationship.
I also look at the evacuation map.
Worked for Jason Bourne.
Emmett spent five hours taking the SATs today, and now is filled with mindless gibbering destructive teen energy. I was going to turn him loose on San Francisco and his friend's party but that fell through and now I'm stuck with insan-o teenbeast.
That sounds like an awesome vacation, Liese!
You'll be productive some other time, Lee.
I actually went out and weeded for a bit, and I made it to the library this morning. If I can force myself to do some neatening tonight, it will almost be in the neighborhood of not superslothy.
When my nephews get like that, he takes them out for a run. They've clocked many miles around the nearby lake. If the weather is shitty, it's the local hands-on science center where they chase up and down 4 floors (with a slide!) along with the other kids whose parents have Had It. Younger demographic, but I expect the runs around the lake will work for years.
I got a shitton done before noon and then just fell down until 4 (couldn't/wouldn't sleep until the wee smalls, up at 7 for market.) Got my swim in and then cleaned the shit out of my floors. Finished that up finally at 8:30.
Tomorrow I need to tackle some yard work. Which just got easier cause when I went out, I discovered one of my neighbors scooped up the leaves on my steps and sidewalks. Still have to do the yard, but aw! Being gone much of Nov, I didn't carry my full share this year (we often work together, or take care of the other 3 when we know they aren't able to do it) so it was totally my turn. But either B or A beat me to it.
