The article definitely seems to be delineating correlation, not causation. There's no claim there that single parent households lead to an increased incidence of abuse, in other words. At least no claim that jumps out at me, but I just skimmed it.

What I want to know is what this legislation will accomplish. If the point is to fucking shame people for being single parents, then fuck you.
If the legislation is to help provide additional services or support for single parents, then you get applause.
There are all kinds of reasons why people are single parents (or functional single parents) and if they want to shame people, I have no use for you and I hope the good people of WI will vote you promptly out of office.

I am pretty sure the Single Mothers' by Choice national organization is stroking out at this guy's proposed legislation.
Oh, and by the way...I hope this legislator isn't against contraception funding because I think I'll have to contribute $$ to whomever is running against him.
