You two carried me through that war. Now I need you to carry me just a little bit further. If you can.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

From what I'm reading, it looks like a lot of it is that a lot of the factors that correlate strongly with child abuse (poverty, drug use) also correlate with single parenthood.

Because books.

msbelle, I don't really snuggle my own cats, but I'll happily come make things in your slow cooker. If you make me cocktails.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I don't have time right now to read the whole article Hil, but I assume they back this up:

Children living with single parents may be at higher risk of experiencing physical and sexual abuse and neglect than children living with two biological parents

With the stipulation that the abuse is at the hands of the custodial parent, right?

snuggling may have been the wrong word. Sharing furniture in close proximity to cats is more accurate.

It looks like the article is focusing specifically on abuse within the home. So abuse by a day care provider wouldn't be counted, but abuse by a mother's live-in boyfriend would.

I'm reminded of a scene from the first episode of Grace Under Fire. Grace has just left her abusive husband, taking their three kids. She enrolled them in a new school in their new town, and within a day or two, she gets a call from the school that her oldest son, age 10 or so, has gotten into a fight. When she goes to see the teacher, the teacher says, rather condescendingly, "I know that he comes from a broken home," and Grace responds, "No, his home WAS broken. I fixed it."

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

The article definitely seems to be delineating correlation, not causation. There's no claim there that single parent households lead to an increased incidence of abuse, in other words. At least no claim that jumps out at me, but I just skimmed it.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I am inching towards ordering my life so I can do things like go hang out with msbelle for a bit, I wouldn't say I can see that goal from here, but it is the goal.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Am having BBQ pork for lunch. Every time I take a bite, I need to wipe BBQ sauce off my hands and mouth. Luckily, they have a roll of paper towels at every table.
