I had the GF version with broccoli recently and it was NOM.
But if you use Okra that thickens a gumbo nicely. How I always made Gumbo, just because I like okra and less work than roux. Also, something I never knew until checking wiki - some Gumbos are thickened with dried sassafrass leaves.
Totes! File and okra are very traditional ways of thickening gumbo.
Okay, reading a recommendation for a tuition waiver that begins "it is my dubious honor to recommend" - seriously? "Dubious" - it makes me question the intent of the entire recommendation.
Maybe they thought dubious was like "indubitably"?
I don't know. Is it any wonder that the student essays are so bad when the faculty/staff letters of recommendation are also so weak.

I read stuff that comes home from school -- both the high school and Sara's school -- and cringe. A lot.
The student essays we give one group of points for what they say and another for how it is written. (I think that part 1 is difficult to judge if part 2 is particularly weak.)
Unfortunately, we don't get to grade the letters of recommendation.
