I was pretty angry about White Chicks, but to paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, I wasn't offended as a white person, I was offended as a film major.
Yeah, racism against caucasians bothers me when it's in the form of overt hostility, but I don't think being good sports about being made fun of in comedy bits is too much to ask of the majority.
KGBar is also a small, cramped space. Whatever the event is, I would plan on getting there early.
Thanks Jessica and Tom! I'm not decided on going, but if I do, I will get there early.
and ita is oppressing me
Yup. I will also continue to do so, if you're making plans for the day.
Go Grace! Decannulate, or the healthiest available option!
I haven't seen Tropic Thunder, but it seems to have been described to me as everyone doing stuff on paper that I might want to avoid with great awareness and pointedness, which elevated it beyond a lot of its baggage. No personal opinion though.
Sending good surgery vibes to Gracie!
And thanks for the condolences everyone. I may be changing my board name eventually. Right now it's nice to see her name there.
I would very much like to hug Burrell and spend the day doing nothing but lounging and having comfort food. Why can't that be your day?
I would love to spend the day like that, msbelle! Might need to be virtual lounging however as I have three major work projects all falling on me right now.
Much ~ma for Grace today.
Yeah, in Tropic Thunder his blackface was angled quite a bit as a comment on people who might wear blackface. RDJ's character is a super-intense actor famous for disappearing into his characters, and it's understood that he's a white guy wearing black makeup and that's fucked up. Similarly Ben Stiller's character playing a mentally disabled character is mocked as a blatant Oscar bid. It's more about actor vanity, pretension and cluelessness.
Even I know to never go full retard.
I should probably get over to Netflix.
