ita, my mom had cataracts removed while my dad was in ICU last spring. It was very simple. She was fine after only 4-5 days, and fit fro travel a week later. The issue was trying to get my stubborn mother to take her eyedrops, which she had to do for a few weeks.

Dont know state of laser surgery in Jamaica. My Mom had laser cataract surgery when she was 80. Surgery itself was a 30 second painless laser blast. Recovery consisted of putting in drops for 3 weeks, wearing no-correction dark glasses. At the end of 3 weeks her eyes had settled into a new permananet form factor and she was able to be fitted with much lower strength new glasses. Don't know if it will be same for your Dad, but was pretty mild and she was pretty self sufficient for the whole recovery period.
