As a person who would watch Smash, how could I possibly know when the Superbowl is??

What, you mean there isn't a huge overlap of televised sports fans and musical-theater fans?

I kid, actually: my sister lives in that overlap. She's a huge baseball fan, and yet every summer drags me to a couple community theater musical productions in the park up the hill.

Speaking of fans, I was very amused on the way into work this morning. I was listening to a podcast, "Stuff Mom Never Told You", which is generally about women's issues, or gender issues, but pretty wide-ranging. This one was about the rise of the female spy in popular culture, and it was so cute, because one of the podcasters is a HUGE La Femme Nikita fan. And not the new Nikita, but the old tv show, with Peta Wilson. She kept swinging from rational, critical-thinking podcaster to squeeing fangirl: it was adorable.

Also, it made me think of Dana.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I still have no idea who's playing in the Super Bowl. And yet I am planning what to cook for the party.

Superbowl is New England vs. New York. This Sunday, I think.

Shall have to see if we're having my father over to watch the game...

Me, I'm going to bring my laptop to visit my folks this weekend and pick my mother's brain about her family history, and enter it into Ancestry.com. During my 2-week free trial period.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I'm not sure when exactly it comes on, because all of the ads say "THE MONDAY AFTER THE SUPERBOWL!!" As a person who would watch Smash, how could I possibly know when the Superbowl is??

Bwahahaha!!

That's exactly what my sister said when we were watching the Golden Globes a couple of weeks ago. "I don't know when that is...and neither does anyone who will watch this show."

But the answer is Monday the 6th.

I know the SuperBowl is this Sunday because all of the food blogs I follow have been posting nothing but wings & dip recipes this week. Lots of "ARE YOU READY FOR GAME DAY?" type headlines. So I assume there is some sort of sporting game coming up in the near future.

I realized a couple days ago that I scheduled a plane flight to be basically during the entire superbowl (I get on around kickoff, and get to my destination three hours later, plus time to get to the hotel...). Ah well--y'all will have to tell me which commercials to watch.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Of course I actually do know when the Superbowl is, and probably everyone does by now, but a couple of weeks ago when those ads started I really did think it was ridiculous.

I am hoping to eat some queso on Sunday. Also, something about the local sports franchise.

Thrive to spite them

People around here, how are football fans, are generally split between New England and New York.

In my knitting group there's a woman whose family is a fan of one and her husband and his family are a fan of the other. So her kids get Patriots stuff and Giants stuff from different grand parents. I think her husband is a Giants fan, so the kids Patriots stuff comes out when her parents come over, and then goes back into closet when they are gone.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I am basically psyched for the Avengers trailer they've been teasing...teased teasers of teaser trailers. And...I'm sucked right in.
