A good friend of ours married a woman from San Pedro Sula and lived there for several years. They're back in the states, but go back regularly. He's casually mentioned that everyone's house is behind a wall, but he's never said anything about weapons or street violence.
He did casually mention that he was once nearly killed at a border crossing.
This article proffers a list of the most dangerous cities in the world
I lived in Rio and have spent time in San Pedro. Rio is absolutely dangerous but having said that, I never had a problem and routinely walked my dogs late at night alone. I always felt secure but I do think that I looked neither like a tourist nor like a regular Brazilian so maybe muggers stayed away.
San Pedro (and all of Honduras) is dangerous, I have heard. Again, I had no problems, but Joe's family is from there and his relatives in San Pedro have had problems.
I couldn't tell if those were supposed to be in ascending order. Like, is Rio really more dangerous than Mogadishu?
Interesting fact - Juarez is supposed to be the murder capital of Mexico and was on the list towards the top. But our government sends 97% of Mexicans looking to live here in the US to Juarez for their immigration processing. Yeah, it's close to the border, but several Mexicans - who were in Juarez only to get their visas to come here - have been killed.
Good god, Kalinda! I should take your attitude to work, as well as your clothes. Just as backup.
Although I would not allow myself to be slapped.
Man, I'm three weeks behind on The Good Wife; clearly I need to catch up.
Of all things to come back, I would not have predicted side ponytails!
I'd have listed that before the glittery skinny headband. Crazycakes in any case.
Day three of the ick has started with minimal head congestion, but with an added invisible ice pick to the temple. And utter exhaustion. Just got dinner going in the slow cooker and I'm done for the day.
I'm so behind on The Good Wife.
well ... last Friday I went to an educational session about diabetes - my doctor encouraged it and, since it was two hours in the morning, I took a personal day off to attend. Schlepped through a major rain storm, got soaked, and got there only five minutes late (I was the first patient to make it). Sat through a presentation which didn't really tell me anything new.
What pisses me off is that a dietician/nutritionist (not sure which she was, but she has advanced degrees in something) did a presentation and handed out "personalized" sample menus. My problem with the menu for me is (1) it almost doubles my current caloric intake and (2) suggests grapefruit for breakfast (which conflicts with at least one of my medications). So ... unless counteracting most of the effects of Lipitor and taking me from obese to morbidly obese are good things, I'm going to ignore her menu plan.
All in all, it was a waste of a day off.
Oh, that's irritating, Toddson. I hope you tell your doc it was shite, so s/he doesn't make the same rec to others.
Verified case of pertussis at Sara's school. How does that even happen when they're all supposed to be vaccinated just to be there?
