OTOH, I now have absolutely no interest in this year's Superbowl. I'll watch, but it won't be the same.

I was busy trying out for the roller derby's A team tonight so I didn't catch much football. The season ends up here when the Packers lose, though.
Well, I just got back from a lovely half-weekend in Balto., wherein I got there, went to dinner with my friend and caught up on All The Things, then karaoke, late night/early am. diner, sleep, more food w/ add'l./DC friends, and then the game. So, you know, aside from the heartbreak of a stripped football and a missed field goal, it as a lovely weekend, and, though sad and a little deflated for the Ravens, was so great to be back in Balto.
I really liked Bend It Like Beckham. I thought it was a pretty accurate depiction of Indian culture. Predictably, my mom didn't like it because the girl ended up with a white dude.

Sorry for the pain, sarameg, but glad you went to urgent care. I was concerned. Eye shit makes me go on high alert. For no reason I can discern; it just does. Here's to fast healing.
Minor drama + snow on Fri/early Sat. condensed what was supposed to be a leisurely, relaxing weekend in MD into a whirlwind, ending in heartbreak. I'm kind of wiped after the drive home, yo.
Oh, my gosh; I caught up mostly on phone earlier and did not post...
Welcome to the world Samuel!!! Congratulations, Stephanie.

I don't know particularly much about the Indian cultures, but it really rang true for me as an immigrant experience. Universal foreign truths, and all that.

Tell her the original version had the girl ending up with a white girl. She should count her blessings.

! Was it really originally a lesbian romance? That makes so much sense, and yet it wouldn't have been nearly as popular, I fear. Certainly it wouldn't have gotten the marketing it did...
Yeah, it was, and I just finished reading an AfterEllen article that said pretty much what you did--it was transgressive and niche enough, that they didn't mind not getting a lesbian romance on top of it, because now they have a movie they can share with a lot of people, as opposed to something only seen by a few.
Parminder won an award as a soccer celebrity on the basis of the movie. And it pretty much got her ER. Good on her!
And now she's on Alcatraz !
